As an Emission and Performance Analyst - Trainee at BSM, you will be responsible for monitoring, analysing and optimising vessel emissions and fuel performance across our managed fleet. You will provide technical insight, data-driven recommendations and reporting to support compliance with environmental regulations, improve operational efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of our operations. This role works closely with technical management, operations, chartering and compliance teams.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor vessel performance and fuel consumption using onboard and shore-based data sources, including voyage data, fuel reporting, bunker delivery notes and sensor outputs.

Analyse trends and root causes of performance deviations, identify opportunities for emissions and fuel efficiency improvements, and develop actionable recommendations.
Support route and voyage optimisation initiatives, speed/power trials and weather routing assessments to minimise fuel use and emissions while meeting operational requirements.
Collaborate with Technical Managers, HSSE and Shipboard teams to develop and implement emission reduction measures, retrofit assessments and alternative fuel strategies.
Prepare regular management reports, dashboards and presentations for stakeholders, translating technical data into clear, decision‑ready information.
Maintain and improve data quality and integrity by implementing verification procedures, reconciling discrepancies and liaising with vessel teams and third‑party providers.
Contribute to development and maintenance of company policies, procedures and best practice guidance related to fuel management, energy efficiency and emissions control.
Provide technical support during internal and external audits, inspections and regulatory enquiries related to emissions and performance.
Undertake additional reasonable duties to support the continuous improvement of the fleet’s environmental and operational performance.
Qualifications & Experience
University degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Environmental Science, Marine Technology or a related discipline.

Practical knowledge of voyage data recorders, EEXI/CII tools, fuel oil consumption reporting and onboard measurement systems is desirable.
Skills & Competencies
Strong analytical skills with demonstrable experience working with large datasets and performance modelling tools.
Proficiency in spreadsheet analysis (advanced Excel) and experience with data visualization or specialist performance software (e.g. MATLAB, Python, R or dedicated vessel performance platforms).
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to present complex technical information clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
