• You’ll be directly oversee execution of routine processes in sowing, planting, harvesting and disease testing that shape the future of vegetable breeding.
• Collaborate with Breeding, Agronomies, and Phytopathology Teams to ensure breeding program success.
  
  

Make a difference as Assistant Breeder

As an Assistant Breeder, you play a vital role in transforming breeding concepts into real-world results. Your work ensures that our crops meet the highest standards of quality, health, and market relevance. By combining hands-on crop care with precise data collection, you help drive innovation and support Enza Zaden’s mission to feed the world sustainably. Next to that, youll be responsible for:

• Provide timely and accurate support in all steps of the breeding process to make the right (selection) decisions.
• Secure implementation and oversee execution of routine processes, i.e. sowing, planting, pollinating harvesting, and disease testing.
• Ensure proper execution of crossing programs, functionally leading Crop Workers, and monitoring process whilst ensuring that the instructions of the (Assistant) Breeder are followed.
• Make independent observation, taking routine phenotypic data from Breeding material and first screenings.
• Assist with the selection of crops based on clear instructions and in alignment with the (Senior) Breeder.
• Recording and processing of observations on plants in designated electronic systems.
• Correct administration when sending/receiving plants, ensuring traceability.
• Organization of periodic routine disease tests and preparation of seed lots in cooperation with Breeders and Routine Disease Testing team, including track and trace.
  
  

What You Bring As a Future Colleague

As an Assistant Breeder, you’re practical, precise, and passionate about breeding processes. You enjoy working outdoors, managing breeding program from start to finish, and turning observations into valuable insights. You’re proactive, communicative, and thrive in a role that combines independence with teamwork.

In short, you:

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science or any related, with 3 to 5 years of experience;
• Proficient in the use of breeding administration software
• Proficient in the use of Excel and Outlook
• communicate clearly and work well with cross-functional teams, proficient in the English and local language, both written and verbal;
• Working in conditioned climate/high temperatures;
• Occasional international and/or domestic business travel.
