Key Result Areas/Accountabilities

Supporting Actions

  • Sustainability-

Support the Manager in ensuring full statutory compliance, timely regulatory approvals, and effective implementation of ESG and compliance frameworks for the Plant and the Mines, with particular focus on mine commissioning and operational compliance.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental, mining, forest, and statutory requirements for the Unit and Coal Mines.
  • Facilitate timely acquisition, renewal, and tracking of approvals including mining leases, EC, CTO, forest clearances, and related permissions.
  • Support implementation of ESG policies and compliance control frameworks at site level.
  • Strengthen compliance through internal audits, monitoring, and corrective action tracking.
  • Contribute to building a strong compliance culture across the Plant and the Mines.
  • Customer Centricity-

Provide timely, practical, and solution?oriented legal support to Plant, Mining, Projects, ESG, and other stakeholders to enable smooth operations, regulatory compliance, and risk?mitigated decision?making.

  • Support smooth operations by providing timely and practical legal advice to business stakeholders.
  • Ensure contracts and documents are structured clearly, fairly, and aligned with business requirements and risk parameters.
  • Provide legal updates, clarifications, and awareness on applicable regulatory framework.
  • Maintain structured and easily retrievable documentation for contracts, approvals, and legal records.
  • Projects-

Support end?to?end legal and regulatory workstreams for mine commissioning and project execution, ensuring timely approvals, risk identification, and smooth transition into operations.

  • Ensure mine commissioning activities are fully compliant, with the applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate legal, land, forest, environmental, and mining and other risks at early stages.
  • Support smooth execution of coal mine development, infrastructure, land acquisition, approval and other processes.
  • Enable effective coordination among Mining, Projects, ESG, and external authorities.
  • Costs-

Support optimisation of legal spend and litigation exposure by improving internal handling, strengthening tracking mechanisms, and assisting in early dispute resolution.

  • Reduce dependence on external counsel by supporting in?house handling of routine legal matters.
  • Assist in early identification and resolution of disputes, particularly land, mining, labour, and contractual issues.
  • Maintain accurate litigation tracking and documentation through ProVakil.
  • Support efforts to improve visibility and control of legal spend.
  • Systems / Tools-

Support effective use of legal systems and digital tools to improve compliance tracking, litigation management, documentation, and reporting.

  • Ensure accurate and timely updation of compliance and approvals in EY Compliance Tool.
  • Maintain complete and up?to?date litigation data in ProVakil.
  • Support implementation and usage of contract management and documentation systems.
  • Enable better data visibility, tracking, and reporting through system discipline.
  • Assist in preparing dashboards and reports for reviews, audits, and management discussions.
  • Self-Development-

Continuously build knowledge and capability in mining and other applicable legal requirements and business operations to effectively support the Manager and handle increasing responsibilities.

  • Build strong understanding of Mining laws and other applicable laws.
  • Develop practical knowledge of mine operations, plant processes, and regulatory interfaces.
  • Improve legal drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Stay updated on legal and regulatory developments relevant to mining and industrial operations.
  • Progressively increase ability to independently handle matters and support decision?making.
