Role Overview

As a Staff SAP ABAP Developer, you will be a core technical contributor within Coupang’s Global Accounting Technology (GATE) team, delivering high-quality ABAP solutions that power our mission-critical financial operations. You will independently own end-to-end development — from requirements analysis and technical design through implementation, testing, and production deployment — across multiple SAP modules.

This role demands a seasoned developer who can work autonomously with minimal supervision, resolve production incidents independently, and maintain the highest standards of code quality and testing rigor. You will serve as a technical anchor for the team — setting quality standards, conducting code reviews, and mentoring junior developers — while delivering complex ABAP solutions at scale.

You will work across SAP ECC and S/4HANA environments, supporting Coupang’s ongoing transformation from legacy SAP systems to a modern S/4HANA landscape. The ideal candidate combines deep ABAP expertise with strong problem-solving skills and the discipline to deliver reliably in a high-volume, fast-paced e-commerce environment.

What You Will Do

Independent End-to-End Development

• Own the full development lifecycle for assigned SAP workstreams — from functional specification analysis through technical design, coding, unit/integration testing, and production deployment
• Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions with minimal guidance, independently determining the optimal approach
• Deliver across multiple SAP modules (FI/CO/MM/SD) with deep process understanding and cross-module awareness
• Handle concurrent development tasks while maintaining quality and meeting delivery timelines

Code Quality & Development Standards

• Define and enforce coding standards, naming conventions, and best practices for ABAP development within the team
• Lead code review processes — review junior developers’ code against established quality criteria, provide constructive feedback, and maintain consistency
• Write well-structured, performant, and maintainable ABAP code that serves as a reference for the team
• Establish and own test strategies including unit testing, integration testing, and regression testing with clear coverage targets

Production Support & Incident Management

• Independently investigate and resolve production incidents without escalation — perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes
• Diagnose system performance issues in ABAP programs, database access patterns, batch jobs, and interfaces
• Develop and execute go-live checklists, cutover plans, and rollback procedures for deployments
• Monitor and stabilize high-volume financial processes including month-end close, mass posting, and settlement operations

Performance Optimization & Technical Excellence

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in ABAP code, SQL access, and data processing routines
• Optimize batch job execution, interface throughput, and report generation for high-volume scenarios
• Analyze and refactor legacy custom code to improve maintainability, performance, and alignment with SAP best practices
• Apply SAP performance tuning techniques (runtime analysis, SQL trace, buffer optimization) systematically

S/4HANA Transition Support

• Support the ECC-to-S/4HANA conversion by analyzing custom code impact, identifying simplification items, and adapting existing programs
• Develop new solutions aligned with S/4HANA architecture principles — CDS Views, ABAP for HANA, and Clean Core guidelines where applicable
• Participate in migration testing, data validation, and technical cutover activities

Technical Mentoring & Knowledge Sharing

• Mentor junior and mid-level developers through pair programming, code reviews, and technical guidance
• Create and maintain technical documentation — design patterns, troubleshooting guides, and onboarding materials
• Contribute to knowledge-sharing sessions and technical brown bags to raise the overall team capability
• Participate in technical interviews and hiring assessments for new team members

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
• 8+ years of SAP ABAP development experience with proven end-to-end delivery (design → implement → test → deploy)
• Independent ownership of 2+ SAP modules (FI/CO/MM/SD) with full business process understanding of owned modules
• Production incident response & RCA experience — demonstrated cases of resolving critical issues independently without escalation
• Test strategy ownership — experience establishing unit/integration/regression testing approaches with self-driven coverage targets
• Code review leadership — track record of reviewing junior developers’ code and setting enforceable quality standards
• Strong understanding of SAP data model, table relationships, and cross-module data flows
• Proficiency in ABAP development including Reports, Module Pool, ALV, Smart Forms/Adobe Forms, BAPIs, BADIs, User Exits, and Enhancement Framework

Preferred Qualifications

• Independent technical specification writing and design review leadership experience
• Mentoring track record — technical onboarding program design or structured knowledge transfer
• SAP S/4HANA migration or conversion project experience (custom code adaptation, simplification)
• Fiori/UI5 development experience or ABAP RESTful Application Programming (RAP)
• Experience with CDS Views, AMDP, and ABAP for SAP HANA optimization techniques
• Understanding of SAP integration technologies — IDocs, RFC/BAPI, PI/PO, or Integration Suite

Bonus Qualifications

• E-commerce, retail, or logistics domain experience
• CI/CD pipeline experience, Git-based version control, and automated testing frameworks (ABAP Unit, eCATT)
• Korea financial system experience (Firm Banking, e-Tax Invoice, virtual accounts, GIRO)
