A Day in the Life
The System Engineer is an experienced contributor responsible for the design, development, and integration of Surgical Robotics systems. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure systems meet customer requirements and industry standards, performing tasks such as requirements analysis, system design, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Summary Of Position
- Experienced individual contributor in System Engineering, working on complex products.
- The System Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and integration of Surgical Robotics systems.
- This role involves working with cross-functional teams to ensure that systems meet both customer requirements and medical industry standards. The System Engineer will perform a variety of tasks including requirements analysis, system design, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal system performance and reliability.
- Responsible for entire projects/processes focusing on reliability testing of assigned systems/subsystems/components, including protocol development, data analysis, and collaboration with external vendors.
- Integral part of an R&D Reliability Engineering team, liaising with cross-functional members, suppliers, and test laboratories to ensure project objectives are met.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Requirements Analysis:
- Gather and analyze system requirements from stakeholders.
- Translate customer needs into technical specifications and requirements documents.

- Individual contributor that works independently under limited supervision on complex projects. Responsible for entire projects/processes within Reliability Engineering.
- Contributes to the completion of Reliability Engineering objectives, through building relationships and consensus to reach agreements on assignments.
- Responsible for reliability testing of assigned system/subsystem/component.
- Test capability development, protocol development, test method development, preliminary failure analysis, test execution, data recording/reporting, data analysis/management, test status reporting/presentation. Supports planning inputs and participates in engineering reviews.
- Perform data analysis and reports transform data into reliability information.
- Conducts development and qualification of methods, fixtures, platforms and software for reliability tests. This includes internal development activities as well as partnering with external vendors.
- Participate in system level workflow testing simulating user experience and supports initial fault isolation activities. Ability to facilitate system level workflow testing and training of test operators.
- Ability to coordinate and schedule reliability testing in addition to budgeting/forecasting/procuring necessary supplies. Reports issues using established procedures/processes.
- Collaboration with cross-functional team members, various suppliers, and test laboratories.
- Coaches and reviews the work of Juniors in the team.
- Tackles difficult problems and demonstrates understanding of multiple issues/specialties.
- Improves processes, systems, or products to enhance performance of Reliability testing.
- Communicate with senior internal customers and external vendors.
- Familiarity scripting or programming languages (LabVIEW) is preferred.
- Experience with solid modeling software (CREO, SolidWorks) is preferred.
- Familiar with concepts of design input, design output, traceability, and risk analysis is preferred.
- Strong skills with PCB design tools (e.g. Allegro/OrCAD, Cadence, PCB Editor as ECAD)
- In-depth knowledge of electronics circuit design, schematics and board layout is desired.
- Implement and maintain data collection or self-diagnostic test systems and scripts for environmental testing of electrical components and sub systems
- Demonstrated experience with testing and evaluating electrical performance, failures, and determination of the useful life for complex electro-mechanical and robotic systems, test and measurement equipment, analysis methodologies and test documentation are required.
Principal Working Relationships
- Reports to the Sr. Engineering Manager/Engineering Manager
- Accountable to Project Manager(s) for project-related responsibilities
- Frequent interaction with team members from other disciplines, particularly hardware engineers, to develop project requirements and other project artifacts such as project schedules.
- Possible interaction with clinicians, third-party vendors, manufacturers, subcontractors, and other users.
Experience
- 8 to less than 12 Years of experience or with an advanced degree with 7+ years of experience
Education
- Required: - B.E or B. Tech in Mechatronics, Mechanical Electronics or Electrical.
- Preferred: - M.E or M. Tech in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electronics and Electrical.
