The Advertising Support, Trust and Safety (ASTS) organization plays a critical role in delivering reliable, high‑quality advertising experiences across Bing, Microsoft properties, and partner publisher networks.

The Microsoft Advertising Service Engineering Manager is responsible for a team of Service & Automation engineers who provide advanced technical support for our online Microsoft Advertising business while delivering solutions that help scale operations and drive efficiency across the organization. The primary focus of this role is on paid search results delivered by Microsoft Ads on Bing and partner publisher sites. This role requires broad business and technical skills, including developing automation strategies and driving continuous improvement based on user and stakeholder feedback.

The Service Engineering Manager builds solid cross‑group relationships with Global Microsoft Advertising Sales and Service teams and key partners to deliver a high‑quality support experience, solve complex technical problems, identify opportunities for impactful automation, set clear priorities, and ensure timely, high‑quality execution.

This role works closely with Microsoft Advertising Engineering to define requirements for next‑generation paid search advertising platform technologies and to ensure the Voice of the Customer remains central to everything we do.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

As our Service Engineering Manager you will:

  • Lead and develop a team of Service and Automation Engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and support to drive high performance and career growth.
  • Deliver results through empowerment and accountability by modeling Microsoft’s leadership principles and fostering a solid, inclusive team culture.
  • Drive process simplification, standardization, and automation to improve operational efficiency, service reliability, and scalability.
  • Own and drive the adoption and operational effectiveness of AI‑enabled support and automation platforms, including Copilot and emerging AI technologies, to improve scalability, efficiency, and service reliability.
  • Partner closely with engineering, business, and technical leaders across the organization to plan and execute high‑impact initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership on large‑scale systems, incident management, and service reliability, ensuring effective resolution of complex issues and prevention of recurrence.
  • Identify, assess, and respond to security risks and emerging threats, reprioritizing automation and tooling as needed.
  • Use data and insights to detect trends, prevent fraud and abuse, protect advertiser ROI, and ensure user safety across the Microsoft Advertising ecosystem.
  • Build solid cross‑group relationships, promote knowledge sharing, and mentor engineers to deliver solutions with meaningful customer and business impact.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or related field AND 8+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, systems engineering, or industrial controls.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years people management and/or leadership experience. Proven experience as a Software Engineering Manager or similar role in a software development setting.
  • 3+ years of experience with programming languages such as Python, C#, or JavaScript, with experience in developing scripts and automation tools for data analysis and manipulation, as well as understanding of automation and scripting skills.
  • 3+ years of customer service and supporting operational excellence and best practices.  
Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
  • Expertise in cloud technologies like Azure.
  • Ability to develop and implement long-term security strategies that align with organizational goals. Experience in transitioning teams from reactive to proactive security postures. Experience partnering with sales, client services & support, legal, marketing, technology teams and other functions as appropriate.
  • Ability to work through self-directed, ambiguous situations.
  • Demonstrated skills in dealing with diverse groups of product teams.
  • Ability to direct and work independently, with an eagerness to consistently meet and exceed commitments/objectives and take ownership of complex problems.
  • Passion for developing others and being vested in their success.
