Role Overview
LPL Financial is seeking a Professional – Application Support Developer to join the Technology Operations Planning & Support (TOPS) team. This role serves as a critical Tier 2/3 technology support function, acting as an escalation point for internal help desks and development teams while supporting multiple brokerage and enterprise applications.
The role blends application support, automation operations, development, and data analysis, with a strong focus on production stability, incident and problem management, process optimization, and intelligent automation. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, technically versatile, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, SAFe‑Agile environment while partnering with Product, Technology, and Business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Application & Production Support
Provide Tier 2/3 application support for brokerage and enterprise platforms across the LPL application ecosystem.
Monitor systems and applications to ensure availability, reliability, and performance; ensure SLA commitments are met daily.
Manage incident, problem, and defect tickets, including triage, prioritization, escalation, and resolution.
Perform root cause analysis for production incidents, ensuring preventative actions are documented and implemented.
Support production releases, change management, and coordination of production installs.
Respond to high‑priority production issues, including regulatory inquiries and time‑sensitive “fire drills,” with ad‑hoc analysis and troubleshooting.
Automation Operations & Engineering
Manage and monitor a fleet of digital workers/automations to ensure alignment with business objectives and operational reliability.
Identify automation, robotics, and workflow optimization opportunities through evaluation of system and process flows.
Build, enhance, and maintain automation solutions using technologies such as Python, Java, VBA, JavaScript, SQL, and visualization tools.
Apply coding best practices to improve automation reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
Leverage data analysis, statistical reporting, and trend analysis to drive continuous improvement.
Data Analysis & Operational Insights
Review and analyze large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, risks, and optimization opportunities.
Communicate actionable insights and critical escalations to business, product, and executive stakeholders in clear, concise formats.
Perform analytical assessments with consideration for financial, client, risk, and operational impact.
Support reporting, quality control, and operational intelligence initiatives.
Collaboration & Process Improvement
Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Service Management, and Technology teams to resolve issues and improve delivery.
Maintain and update application support documentation, runbooks, and support artifacts.
Participate in all phases of the SDLC and adapt to LPL’s Agile/Iterative development processes.
Contribute to process improvements using Agile, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
Build strong working relationships across technology and business teams.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
10-14+ years of experience in application support, production support, or automation support roles.
Strong experience with incident management, problem management, and root cause analysis.
Hands‑on experience with AWS, SQL/SQL Server, and Linux/Unix environments.
Development experience with one or more of the following:
Python, Java, JavaScript, VBA
PL/SQL / Oracle
Web technologies (JSP, HTML, Angular, CSS, XML)
Experience with ETL tools (Informatica or equivalent).
Strong data analysis and troubleshooting skills.
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas) and Microsoft Office suite.
Comfortable working in Agile / SAFe environments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with WorkFusion or other RPA platforms.
