Scope And Responsibilities
Oaktree is seeking a Senior Manager – India Entity Controller to oversee accounting, statutory compliance, tax coordination, audits, controls, and financial reporting for its India legal entities.
The role will be responsible for the finance controllership of India-based entities. The Senior Manager will ensure accurate books, timely close, strong compliance discipline, audit readiness, and effective coordination with internal stakeholders, external advisors, auditors, and the Hyderabad accounting team.
This is a hands-on role for a qualified Chartered Accountant who can manage detailed accounting and compliance requirements while also improving processes, strengthening controls, and supporting the continued growth of Oaktree’s India entities.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Legal Entity Accounting & Financial Close
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for India legal entities, ensuring timely and accurate completion of books.
- Review journal entries, accruals, provisions, intercompany balances, fixed assets, payroll-related accounting, and other key close areas.
- Ensure accounting records, schedules, reconciliations, and statutory books are maintained in line with Indian GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with the Hyderabad accounting team on transaction processing, reconciliations, close deliverables, and India entity reporting support.
Tax, Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
- Oversee GST, TDS/withholding tax, corporate tax, advance tax, tax audit, transfer pricing, and related reconciliations and filings.
- Work closely with Oaktree Tax, local tax advisors, external bookkeepers, and compliance partners to ensure timely and accurate completion of India compliance obligations.
- Support tax assessments, notices, audits, regulatory inquiries, and documentation requirements for India entities.
- Monitor STPI, IFSC/GIFT City, export-related, and other applicable regulatory compliance requirements based on the operating model of the India entities.
Audit, Controls & Governance
- Lead coordination of statutory audits, tax audits, group audits, and internal audits, including review of schedules, documentation, and auditor responses.
- Prepare & review statutory financial statements, audit schedules, disclosures, and related supporting materials for India entities.
- Monitor compliance with internal financial control policies and support SOX readiness
- Maintain and enhance close checklists, compliance calendars, audit trackers, control documentation, and issue-resolution processes.
Team Oversight, Stakeholder Management & Process Improvement
- Provide functional oversight, training, feedback, and quality review for India-related work performed by the wider Hyderabad accounting team.
- Act as a key point of contact for global finance, tax, legal, compliance, HR/payroll, auditors, advisors, bookkeepers, and service providers.
- Drive process improvements, strengthen internal ownership of filings, improve documentation, and support transition of selected activities from external providers to internal teams over time.
Experience And Qualifications
- Qualified Chartered Accountant with 5–8 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
- Strong knowledge of Indian GAAP, statutory reporting, Companies Act requirements, and India legal entity accounting.
- Experience managing monthly/quarterly close, balance sheet reconciliations, statutory audits, tax audits, and financial statement preparation.
- Good working knowledge of GST, TDS/withholding tax, corporate tax, transfer pricing, and India compliance requirements.
- Experience coordinating with external auditors, tax advisors, bookkeepers, and compliance service providers.
- Strong Excel, accounting systems, analytical, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, review detailed accounting work, and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
Personal Attributes
- Experience in financial services, investment management, asset management, private equity, alternatives, banking, or a multinational GCC environment.
- Exposure to SOX, internal financial controls, or group control frameworks.
- Experience with Workday and/or Workiva.
Education
- A Chartered Accountant with 5+ years of experience.
