In this pivotal role, you will serve as the Global Category Lead for Medical Communications (Advertising).
You will be responsible for leading category strategy for Medical Communications within the overarching creative agency category. You will spearhead initiatives to define partnership strategies, oversee business planning and governance, and unlock innovation and value realization across medical, commercial and enterprise objectives. Your mission will extend to fostering collaboration, enabling enterprise-wide initiatives, and championing change to position Global Procurement as a strategic value driver within the organization.
In this role you will:
Serve as a trusted advisor and thought leader for Medical Communications, with cross collaboration as needed for the creative agency category across Marketing by delivering expert insights into market dynamics, supplier capabilities, emerging communications technologies, and industry best practices.
Translate these insights into actionable category strategies that support enterprise reputation, stakeholder engagement, and business objectives.
Forge strong, strategic relationships with stakeholders across medical, commercial, marketing operations and cross-functional partners to ensure alignment between business priorities and category strategies.
Leverage market intelligence to develop and execute category strategies across Medical, Medical Communication and as needed creative agencies for content creation and related services, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and measurable business value.
Provide deep procurement expertise across the Medical Communications ecosystem and as needed creative agency space to advance strategic communications initiatives and enterprise transformation while positioning Procurement as a trusted strategic partner.
Partner with Finance and cross-functional teams to guide investment and budget decisions while balancing stewardship, impact, innovation, and risk.
Bridge procurement performance with business goals through category initiatives that improve supplier governance, optimize investments and deliver measurable outcomes across medical and marketing organizations.

Functional Skills: Must-Have Skills for Category Lead
Proven experience leading Medical Communications or Marketing Procurement categories end-to-end, from category strategy and business planning through sourcing, supplier management, and value realization.
Strong background in Medical Communications, Marketing Procurement, or related categories within Biotech, Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, or other highly regulated industries, with an understanding of agency ecosystems.
Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and influence global, matrixed teams across business units, functions, and geographies.
Expertise in driving enterprise-wide sourcing strategies, leading complex supplier relationships, managing strategic trade-offs, and representing key categories in executive forums.
Deep understanding of agency and supplier ecosystems, with demonstrated success leveraging supplier-enabled innovation, emerging technologies, AI-enabled communications solutions.
Outstanding communication, negotiation, and executive stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leaders, build consensus, and drive strategic decision-making.
Good-to-Have Skills For Category Lead
Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) or significant professional experience in Medical or Marketing Communications, or Agency Management.
Strong analytical mindset with expertise in supplier performance measurement, value realization, market intelligence, and business case development.
Experience with communications agency models, and commercialization contracting frameworks.
Expertise in advanced Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Relationship Management methodologies.
Soft Skills:
Demonstrates executive presence with the ability to influence effectively across senior leadership.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills tailored for executive-level interactions.
Proven ability to collaborate with global, virtual teams.
Adept at navigating ambiguity and leading through change.
Highly self-motivated with a proactive, strategic mindset.
Exceptional multitasking and prioritization capabilities.
Strong business acumen with the ability to balance commercial objectives, risk management, and stakeholder needs.
A collaborative team player dedicated to delivering enterprise value and achieving collective goals.
Basic Qualifications:
Master’s degree and 8 years of business partnering, category management and/or related experience, OR
Bachelor’s degree and 13 years of business partnering, category management and/or related experience, AND
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources.
