You’ll work on globally distributed, scalable, and low-latency services that serve critical workloads across the globe.

The Azure DNS team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer with deep technical expertise, a curiosity-driven mindset, and a strong sense of ownership. You will work to design and implement a globally distributed, scalable and low latency super service that provides DNS capabilities for the most critical domains in the world. The developer will work with a team of other software engineers to design and implement various components that constitute this state-of-the-art distributed systems solution and ensure a timely execution of the components with high quality - think of 1 billion records at very low latencies. Running DNS at such scale requires building systems that are resilient to multiple failure patterns with continuous investments in quality of service.

 Azure DNS also enables other innovations in Azure by providing a robust platform for resource naming across all Azure features like Storage, Software Defined Networking, databases and Azure Compute. This provides an enormous learning opportunity to build integrated solutions with other Azure services. This team also owns building services for DDoS protection of DNS service and you will play a key role in ensuring a smooth integration of core DNS services with the DDoS solutions. Responsibilities

• Work with engineers, program managers and partner teams to deliver a set of features with the right overall design and architecture. 
• Write clean well-thought-out code with an emphasis on quality, performance, simplicity, durability, scalability, and maintainability.  
• Own certain components from design, engaging with other teams to manage dependencies, implementation, to monitoring of the deployed service. 
• Deploy/patch/feature rollouts with health signal controlled safe deployments.
• Work on Linux, Windows and Azure tools.
• Exhibit thought leadership in helping take the service forward with new capabilities, innovations and improving the experience on existing capabilities.
• Effectively create clarity of status, progress and blockers affecting large projects.
• Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  
  

Other Requirements

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
• 4+ years of experience in building, shipping and operating reliable, distributed systems software.  
• 4+ years of experience developing software hosted in Azure, AWS, or other similar Cloud platforms. 
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• 10+ years of experience in commercial software development.  
• 3+ years of software development experience on Linux platforms including hands-on experience in Linux OS/patching/feature rollout automation with safe health signals in large scale distributed environments
• 3+ years hands-on experience with Linux containers, docker, puppet, ansible
• Demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills.
