Position Summary
Blackbaud is seeking a Principal Analyst, Unclaimed Property & Escheatment to establish, own, and scale a new U.S. unclaimed property compliance program from our Hyderabad location. This individual contributor will serve as the operational and technical subject matter expert for the end-to-end lifecycle of unclaimed property, including identification, research, due diligence, reporting, remittance, reconciliation, audit support, and ongoing monitoring.
The Principal Analyst will build the program foundation, create sustainable processes and controls, and partner across Finance, Order-to-Cash, Accounting, Treasury, Payroll, Legal, Tax, and Financial Systems. The role is designed for a hands-on program owner who can independently translate regulatory requirements into practical operations, reduce compliance risk, and develop a scalable model that supports Blackbaud as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
Build and Own the Program
· Create and operationalize Blackbaud's U.S. unclaimed property and escheatment program from the ground up.
· Establish the program governance model, property-type inventory, state compliance calendar, risk assessment, roles and responsibilities, approval framework, and escalation paths.
· Develop policies, standard operating procedures, process maps, decision documentation, work instructions, and evidence-retention standards.
· Serve as the primary operational owner and internal subject matter expert for holder-side unclaimed property compliance.
Compliance, Due Diligence, and Reporting
· Own the end-to-end compliance cycle for applicable U.S. states, legal entities, and property types.
· Interpret and maintain state-specific requirements, including dormancy periods, due diligence thresholds, owner outreach, reporting formats, filing deadlines, and remittance requirements.
· Prepare, review, and submit accurate and timely state reports and payments through applicable portals or third-party filing tools.
· Monitor regulatory changes, assess operational impacts, and coordinate required updates to processes and controls.
· Coordinate owner outreach and due diligence efforts to return funds to rightful owners whenever possible.
Research, Reconciliation, and Root-Cause Reduction
· Identify and investigate potentially escheatable property, including customer credit balances, unapplied cash, unidentified remittances, refunds, vendor payments, payroll items, and other dormant obligations.
· Analyze large datasets from ERP, billing, CRM, banking, payroll, and related systems to determine ownership, jurisdiction, dormancy, and appropriate disposition.
· Reconcile unclaimed property populations and filings to general ledger balances, subledgers, bank activity, and supporting schedules.
· Partner with operational teams to resolve aged balances and address root causes such as duplicate payments, application issues, billing errors, and incomplete owner information before property becomes reportable.
Controls, Audit Readiness, and Risk Management
· Design, document, and execute preventive and detective controls supporting complete, accurate, and timely compliance.
· Maintain audit-ready support for research conclusions, due diligence, approvals, filings, remittances, reconciliations, and exceptions.
· Lead operational support for internal audits, state examinations, voluntary disclosure efforts, regulatory inquiries, and remediation activities.
· Identify compliance gaps and emerging risks, recommend practical solutions, and communicate issues clearly to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Automation, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
· Develop dashboards, compliance trackers, aging views, key risk indicators, and performance metrics that provide visibility to program health.
· Use Excel and available analytics, automation, and AI capabilities to reduce manual effort, strengthen data quality, and improve repeatability.
· Partner with Financial Systems and process owners on system enhancements, data requirements, testing, and future-state process design.
· Create a scalable operating model that can support additional property types, legal entities, jurisdictions, and future team growth.
Cross-Functional Leadership
· Build strong working relationships across Order-to-Cash, Accounting, Treasury, Payroll, Tax, Legal, Financial Systems, Internal Audit, and other business teams.
· Provide practical guidance and training to stakeholders on unclaimed property requirements, responsibilities, and prevention opportunities.
· Influence outcomes without direct authority and drive decisions through clear analysis, documented requirements, and effective stakeholder communication.
Required Qualifications
· 7 or more years of experience in U.S. unclaimed property, escheatment, regulated financial compliance, accounting operations, controllership, treasury, or a closely related field.
· Demonstrated holder-side experience with multistate U.S. unclaimed property compliance, including due diligence, reporting, remittance, and reconciliation.
· Experience independently building, stabilizing, or materially improving a compliance process or program.
· Ability to interpret state requirements and translate them into clear operational processes and controls.
· Strong analytical and investigative skills, including experience working with large and complex datasets.
· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong documentation, project ownership, and stakeholder management capabilities.
· Ability to manage fixed regulatory deadlines, competing priorities, and complex issues with a high degree of independence and accuracy.
· Strong written and verbal English communication skills and experience partnering with U.S.-based stakeholders.
Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate delivery and improve quality and actively experiment with emerging capabilities as they evolve.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience owning state audits, voluntary disclosure agreements, regulatory examinations, or penalty-resolution activities.
· Experience in a U.S. public company, SaaS organization, global business services environment, or India GCC / shared services model.
· Knowledge of customer credit balances, unapplied cash, refunds, vendor payments, payroll property, and related accounting flows.
· Experience with Power BI, Alteryx, SQL, workflow tools, or similar reporting and automation capabilities.
· Experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Workday, SAP, or comparable ERP, CRM, billing, and financial systems.
· Relevant accounting, finance, audit, compliance, project management, or unclaimed property training or certification.
