Software Engineer Manager
About The Role
Were seeking a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to lead a Software Development team with day-to-day technical leadership responsibilities. Working closely with other Development teams, this role executes the companys technical, architectural, and commercial product initiatives by taking an active role with the team. The Manager will be responsible for both technical roadmap/design and people management.
A successful candidate in this role would assume leadership in delivering customer outcomes with a focus on building modern delivery pipelines in a high-availability platform. This role will lead a high-impact team through the product development lifecycle by being an active contributor of production-quality code, with up to 70% of time focused on research, development, system designs, and architectural reviews. This role works in an Agile environment, collaborating with the team to lead continuous improvement using data-driven decisions through iterative development.
Responsibilities
- Lead by example: Hands-on in design, coding, and shipping high-quality software using Angular, Node.js, JavaScript, and Java (back end) on AWS services like Lambda, EC2, S3, and SQS.
- Strong foundation in Spring frameworks and data layers like MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, etc.
- Champion and educate the organization on Agile best practices, new frameworks, processes, architectural standards, design patterns, and solutions.
- Ensure engineering excellence by having sound knowledge of Microservices, security and containerization.
- Collaborate with Development, Product, and Architecture teams to drive the software development lifecycle, iterating quickly to deliver high-impact solutions to Production with high quality.
- Ensure engineering excellence by adherence to standards around robustness, resiliency, high-availability, scaling, and utilization of modern delivery pipelines.
- Plan and execute a timely release process with all stakeholders, including necessary communication.
- Mentor and grow developers through coaching, feedback, and amplifying technical vision from the Enterprise Architecture team.
- Establish roadmaps and resourcing needs across multiple teams.
- Balance speed and quality by utilizing industry-standard measurements such as Cycle Time, Lead Time to Change, and Deployment Frequency to identify
roadblocks. Ensure the proper technical design required to positively impact measurements.
- Assess risks and dependencies and hold teams accountable to high standards by leading by example.
- Drive incident response for the team, including on-call coverage, technical response, and providing technical resolution to production issues.
Required Experience
- Computer Science degree with related experience.
- 5+ years of software development management experience.
- Excellent understanding of AWS services (e.g., EC2, EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway).
- Strong understanding of system design, scalability, microservices, and distributed architectures.
- Experience designing external-facing UI applications, SSO integration, secure systems, and APIs.
- Experience designing high-availability, fault-tolerant, and secure systems.
- Practical experience with GitHub Actions, CI/CD, or other automation tools.
- Familiarity with UI, backend, and API development and their integration.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and conduct thoughtful, constructive code reviews.
- Experience being the technical lead on a team that produces high-quality deliverables.
Nice To Have
- Strong knowledge on DB concepts and data analysis experience with expertise in data-driven decision making
- Hybrid mobile app development experience with Ionic or Cordova
- SDLC experience across AI development lifecycles
- Familiarity with modern AI concepts: LLMs, Agentic AI, MCP, and Copilot development
- Knowledge of cloud monitoring and observability tools
Knowledge And Skills
- Engineering background, including ability to understand technical architecture and implementation at code level.
- Thorough understanding of, and support for, Agile development methodologies.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.
- Ability to effectively communicate across organizational levels and with a variety of stakeholders, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to understand and effectively explain upstream and downstream product, team, and organizational impacts.
