Job Description

Description

Do you want to ensure Amazon employees are paid accurately, on time, and in full compliance with local regulations? As a Financial Analyst II on the Payroll Compliance team, you will partner with the Payroll Compliance Manager to build compliance tools, develop metrics, and produce reports that monitor risk across Amazon's countries in the region. You will apply your expertise in international payroll, employment tax, social security legislation, and cross-border worker regulations to directly impact how Amazon discovers, measures, and resolves payroll compliance risks. If you are detail-oriented, analytical, and motivated to make a tangible difference, this is the role for you.

Key job responsibilities

  • Partner with project teams and stakeholders to embed payroll compliance requirements from day one for new country and entity launches, applying knowledge of local employment tax and social security legislation.
  • Develop and maintain management reporting and metrics using Excel and compliance tools, tracking statutory requirements and ensuring effective monitoring of identified risks across multiple countries.
  • Identify new risk areas and potential non-compliance issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive resolution through to full compliance while collaborating with Tax, Accounting, Human Resources, and Global Mobility teams.
  • Manage and facilitate audits of operational payroll processes and statutory obligations, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance activities, and develop remediation plans to close identified gaps.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and simplify compliance workflows, partner with technology teams to deploy solutions that reduce processing time and errors, and provide ongoing guidance and training to payroll teams on compliance matters.

Basic Qualifications

  • Tax, employment legal, and/or payroll experience with specific exposure to NORM countries.
  • Strong knowledge of international payroll, employment tax, and social security legislation.
  • Solid understanding of cross-border workers, tax treaties, and international employment legislation.
  • Experience with SOX compliance and related responsibilities.
  • Strong Excel and reporting skills.
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to dive deep into detail while understanding the broader picture.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as Finance, Tax, or Accounting.
  • US tax knowledge or experience is highly preferable.
  • Previous Payroll Compliance management experience across multiple geographies.
  • Experience within a control or audit environment.
  • Exposure to AI tools, automation platforms, or process simplification initiatives within payroll or finance operations.
  • Additional language skills.
  • Project management experience.

A day in the life

You start by reviewing compliance dashboards and validating payroll data inputs across countries in the region. From there, you may join a working session with the Payroll Compliance Manager to assess an emerging risk area, then shift to building out a new metric in Excel or your compliance tooling. You regularly connect with Tax, Accounting, Human Resources, and Global Mobility partners to align on statutory deadlines, and you carve out time to document processes and train payroll team members on updated compliance requirements.

About The Team

The Payroll Compliance team sits within Amazon's broader finance organization with a clear mission: pay employees accurately and on time with the highest controllership and compliance standards. We partner with payroll operations, Tax, Human Resources, Global Mobility, and external advisors to monitor and resolve compliance risks across multiple countries. You will join a collaborative team that values knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and professional growth as we scale our tools and processes to support Amazon's expanding presence.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of finance, tax or a related analytical field experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of participating in continuous improvement projects in your team to scale and improve controllership with measurable results experience
