We are seeking Technical Team Leads to oversee quality and delivery for our application-level products. You will manage a compact team of 3-5 engineers developing educational applications that serve thousands of students.
Potential Products Include
- Athena: AI-powered video and assessment generation delivering quantifiable learning results
- TeachTap: AI-driven platform bringing historical personalities to life through a TikTok-style educational interface
- TeachTales: Customized, engaging storytelling designed to enhance reading comprehension
- TrashCat: Game-based learning that makes education entertaining and interactive
This position combines individual contribution with leadership: 50% direct implementation of sophisticated features, 50% mentoring and empowering your team. You define quality expectations, create technical patterns, conduct code reviews with educational intent, and support engineer development. Team results are your responsibility, extending beyond your personal contributions.
Compact team structure, significant autonomy, minimal administrative overhead. Your focus is technical leadership; people management is handled separately.
What You Will Be Doing
- Implementing sophisticated features that serve as templates for team members
- Conducting pull request reviews with comprehensive, instructional commentary
- Developing engineers through pair programming and constructive feedback
- Organizing technical initiatives and decomposing specifications
- Defining quality benchmarks and verifying team adherence
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Handling personnel matters (recruitment, termination, performance assessments, career development discussions)
- Developing platform-layer infrastructure
- Attending excessive meetings
- Designing systems without hands-on coding
Basic Requirements
Engineering Team Lead key responsibilities
- Minimum 5 years of full-stack development experience
- Minimum 2 years in a leadership capacity (conducting code reviews, mentoring developers, defining team standards)
- Proven history of delivering SaaS products
- Practical experience integrating AI tools into development processes
- Verified capability to elevate other engineers' skills and performance

Working with us
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
