Role Summary
This role provides hands-on support and administration of the existing Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 ERP environment. NAV is the master data system for Products/Inventory, Warehouses, Pricing, Invoices/Billing, Resources (Vendors), UK Customers, G2 Devices, and Orders, operating across 5 SQL databases. The invoicing process is integrated with CRM through the Power Platform, and NAV data feeds into the Fabric data pipeline through the Medallion Architecture for enterprise reporting, including refreshable AP/AR reports built from posted invoices, posted payments, and total deposits.
The specialist will serve as an offshore extension of the U.S. NAV team, supporting the Senior Business Systems Analyst (PC Lee), who currently splits time between NAV Process Optimizations & Enhancements and sustaining/support activities. The new hire will handle user requests, routine maintenance, and first-line troubleshooting — particularly providing off-hours support for the Global and U.S. teams to ensure extended coverage. All product improvements and enhancements will be performed under the direction of management. The 2026 roadmap includes a Security Role revamp for NAV + CRM and ongoing work to integrate NAV data with cloud-based systems.
Key Responsibilities
NAV System Administration: Manage day-to-day operations of the Dynamics NAV 2009 system, including adding users, configuring security roles and permissions, and handling user provisioning and de-provisioning. Ensure proper setup of user accounts and access levels consistent with business requirements.
Troubleshooting & User Support: Serve as the primary contact for NAV-related support during India business hours and U.S. off-hours. Diagnose and resolve NAV errors, performance issues, and integration problems, including issues with the underlying SQL Server databases. Current examples of issues include Power BI Gateway account permission changes on NAV databases causing report refresh failures and sales price synchronization discrepancies between NAV and CRM. Escalate complex issues to the U.S. team with clear documentation.
SQL Server Maintenance: Perform routine SQL Server maintenance tasks related to NAV 2009, including monitoring database health across the 5 NAV databases, verifying successful completion of scheduled jobs and backups, running diagnostic queries, and ensuring data integrity. Assist with analyzing SQL logs to identify root causes of system issues.
Process Improvement & Enhancements: Under management direction, identify and implement minor improvements in NAV 2009 for better workflow, improved efficiencies, and error reduction. This could include adjusting configurations, creating reports or queries, and assisting with integration efforts between NAV and other systems (e.g., CRM, Fabric data warehouse). Document all changes and contribute to process manuals or user guides.
Off-Hours Coverage & Handover: Provide continuity by addressing issues that arise outside U.S. business hours and preparing handover reports for the U.S. team. Participate in periodic team meetings (occasionally during early U.S. hours) to stay aligned with ongoing projects. Develop awareness of potential future migration paths (e.g., to Dynamics 365 Business Central) and assist in preparatory tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and hands-on ERP experience).
Experience: Approximately 2+ years in a Microsoft Dynamics NAV support, administration, or functional analyst role. Experience with Dynamics NAV 2009 (or nearby versions such as 2013/2015) is highly desirable. Familiarity with NAV modules (finance, inventory, sales/purchasing) is important.
SQL Server Skills: Basic-to-intermediate proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server — ability to write queries, analyze logs, understand database schemas, and perform routine maintenance tasks on the NAV SQL back end.
Troubleshooting Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing ERP issues, interpreting error messages, and working through solutions methodically. Attention to detail is crucial for identifying data or permission discrepancies.
Communication & Collaboration: Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to document issues and resolutions clearly and communicate with end-users professionally. Flexibility to occasionally adjust working hours for U.S. time zone overlap and attend virtual meetings. Must work effectively with both the local India team and the remote U.S. team.
Preferred Skills
Modern ERP/Cloud Experience: Experience with more recent versions of Dynamics NAV or Dynamics 365 Business Central is a strong plus, as it demonstrates the ability to learn newer systems and may support future upgrade projects.
Azure & Integration Knowledge: Exposure to Microsoft Azure cloud services (e.g., Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory) is helpful, given plans to modernize and integrate NAV data with cloud-based systems. Understanding how NAV interfaces with other systems (e.g., CRM via Power Platform or APIs) is a bonus.
DevOps & Scripting: Familiarity with Git and basic DevOps practices for managing code or database scripts. Experience writing or maintaining SQL scripts, PowerShell, or other automation scripts for maintenance tasks is advantageous.
Certifications
Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Dynamics NAV Certified Professional or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Functional Consultant are a plus.
