SAP ABAP/BTP Lead (L3) – Job Description
The SAP ABAP/BTP Lead (L3) is responsible for leading technical design, development, and delivery of SAP custom solutions across ABAP, ABAP on HANA, and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). The role involves architectural guidance, technical governance, code review, and hands-on development for complex SAP implementations, migrations, and enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
Lead end-to-end design and development of SAP applications using ABAP, ABAP OO, CDS Views, OData services, and Fiori/UI5.
Architect and implement solutions on SAP BTP (Neo & Cloud Foundry), including CAP, RAP, Integration Suite, Workflow, Event Mesh, and Business Rules.
Provide technical governance, development standards, and best practices for SAP custom development.
Lead code reviews, performance optimization, and ensure high development quality.
Solution Development
Drive development of custom objects (reports, enhancements, Smartforms,SAP Scripts, interfaces, conversions, workflows).
Build SAP - compliant solutions using CDS, AMDP, BOPF, RAP, and Fiori Elements.
Integrate SAP ERP with BTP services, third-party systems, and cloud applications.
Understand MDR objects configuration and can work on MDR objects development.
Project Delivery & Collaboration
Work closely with functional consultants, solution architects, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Provide technical feasibility assessments, effort estimates, and risk identification.
Guide junior developers and offshore teams, providing mentorship and technical direction.
Support SIT, UAT, cutover, and post-go-live activities.
Enterprise Integration & Middleware
Deep Hands-on Experience In Multiple Integration Technologies
SAP Integration Suite (CPI, API Mgmt, Event Mesh)
Design and develop iFlows, REST/SOAP APIs, IDoc/Proxy integrations.
Own escalations for complex integration, ABAP, and BTP issues.
Lead root-cause analysis, debugging, trace analysis, and monitoring setup (Cloud Integration Monitoring, Alerting).
Ensure production stability and SLAs adherence for critical interfaces and applications.
Required Skills & Experience
Core ABAP Skills
10+ years in SAP ABAP/ABAP OO development.
Strong experience with CDS Views, AMDP, OData, ADT/Eclipse, and performance tuning.
Experience in ALE/IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, BADIs, User Exits, Enhancements.
Expertise in SmartForms/Adobe Forms/Script logic.
SAP ECC / S/4HANA Skills
Deep understanding of S/4HANA data models, CDS extensibility, and embedded analytics.
Experience with Fiori custom and standard apps (UI5, Fiori Elements).
BTP Skills
3–5+ years in SAP BTP (Cloud Foundry preferable)
Hands-on with:
CAP/RAP
SAP HANA Cloud
SAP Integration Suite (iFlows, API Mgmt)
SAP Workflow Management
SAP Event Mesh
Launchpad Service
Good knowledge of security (OAuth, JWT, XSUAA), multi-tenant apps, and cloud deployments.
Soft Skills
Strong communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
Ability to lead distributed delivery teams and manage technical workstreams.
Problem-solving mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with ABAP Cloud and clean-core extensibility models.
Knowledge of DevOps pipelines (CI/CD), GitHub, and transport automation tools.
Certification in SAP ABAP/S4HANA/BTP.
Exposure to automation tools like SAP Build or RPA.
