Job Description

The Business Development Manager plays a strategic sales and market development role focused on driving growth for engineering services in the India marketplace. This position concentrates on promoting capabilities within Manufacturing, Mechanical & Electrical, and Systems & Software practices. The role involves owning a portfolio of target accounts, developing and executing account strategies, and working closely with delivery and practice teams to ensure a consistent, high-quality approach throughout the sales cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, own, and execute strategic account plans to expand services opportunities in the India marketplace.
  • Meet or exceed annual revenue and gross profit targets by driving both new business and expansion within existing accounts.
  • Engage closely with practice leaders and solution experts to design and deliver cutting-edge engineering and technology solutions for clients.
  • Focus on expanding capabilities and service penetration within assigned accounts through proactive account management and consultative selling.
  • Maintain and grow strong, long-term client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders.
  • Balance new business development with existing account expansion, ensuring a healthy and sustainable sales pipeline.
  • Proactively introduce innovative solutions and ideas that help clients improve their business performance and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in assessing client needs and in the design and development of technical requirements and tailored solutions.
  • Support the development of project proposals, using data gathering techniques and analysis to build compelling business cases.
  • Present proposed solutions and value propositions to clients clearly and persuasively, adapting messaging to different stakeholder levels.
  • Manage client expectations throughout the entire sales cycle, from initial engagement through negotiation and closing.
  • Develop and manage a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities, building relationships with executive sponsors and key decision makers.
  • Lead and participate in RFx responses, presentations, contract discussions, negotiations, and internal and external quarterly business reviews.
  • Coordinate with corporate functions such as Legal, Marketing, Finance, Professional Development, and Human Resources to ensure smooth setup and governance of large accounts, including contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate leadership through relationship building, organizational agility, and the ability to influence across teams and functions.
  • Use effective communication, reporting, and sales management practices to track progress, forecast results, and continuously improve sales effectiveness.

Essential Skills

  • Proven track record in business development for engineering services, demonstrating consistent achievement of sales and growth targets.
  • More than 10 years of successful experience in initiating and cultivating client relationships for complex services solutions.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated skill in new business sales and account expansion.
  • Hands-on experience managing the full sales cycle, including opportunity identification, qualification, solutioning, proposal development, and closing.
  • Expertise in RFx processes, including response strategy, content development, and presentation delivery.
  • Strong contract and commercial negotiation skills, with the ability to balance client needs and organizational requirements.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to engage executive-level stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Proven ability to manage and grow strategic accounts, including building relationships with executive sponsors and key decision makers.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including delivery operations, legal, finance, marketing, and human resources.
  • Leadership skills in relationship building, organizational agility, and leading by influence rather than direct authority.

  • Experience selling services within Manufacturing, Mechanical & Electrical, and Systems & Software practices.
  • Background in strategic planning for market and account development in the India marketplace.
  • Experience supporting the assessment, design, and development of technical requirements and solutions for clients.
  • Ability to employ data gathering techniques and analytical methods to build strong business cases and solution proposals.
  • Experience participating in internal and external quarterly business reviews and executive-level account governance.
  • Comfort working in a matrixed environment and coordinating with multiple internal stakeholders to deliver client value.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for client-facing documentation, proposals, and presentations.
