Job Description

Designation: Assistant Manager – Electrical Design

Department: Renewable Energy

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent

Location: Hyderabad

Reporting To: Design Head

Role Overview

We are seeking a technically competent and detail‑oriented Assistant Manager – Electrical Design to support electrical design and engineering deliverables for solar PV/solar EPC projects. The role involves preparing and reviewing electrical designs, drawings, technical specifications, and BOQs/BOMs; coordinating with procurement, execution, civil/structural, and other teams; and ensuring that electrical design outputs meet project standards — ready for procurement and execution.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Electrical Design & Engineering

Prepare and review electrical design deliverables: single‑line diagrams (SLD), DC/AC layouts, cable‑sizing and routing, earthing/grounding plans, lightning protection, illumination & load calculations, etc.

Perform electrical system calculations: load analysis; sizing of inverters/transformers/cables; protection coordination; voltage‑drop, earthing and grounding design; and ensure compliance with applicable design standards / codes.

Prepare Bills of Materials (BOM) / Quantities (BOQ) and technical specifications for electrical equipment and materials (switchgear, inverters/transformers, panels, cables, protection devices, earthing materials, etc.).

Generate and issue detailed electrical drawings and documents required across project phases — conceptual, tendering, detailed design, execution and as‑built documentation.

  • Coordination & Inter‑Disciplinary Interface

Coordinate with civil/structural, mechanical (if any), procurement, project‑management and site‑execution teams to ensure electrical design integrates seamlessly with other project disciplines (civil layout, mounting structures, grid‑tie or EB‑line interfacing, etc.).

Liaise with vendors, suppliers, contractors for electrical equipment — clarify technical requirements, review vendor data‑sheets/submittals to ensure compliance with design specs; support vendor evaluation for electrical packages.

Work with procurement and SCM to support procurement based on design — ensure material specs and requirements are clearly defined and communicated.

  • Documentation & Compliance

Maintain version‑controlled design documents: SLDs, layout drawings, cable/earthing/grounding diagrams, datasheets, BOQs/BOMs, technical specifications, vendor submittals, change/revision records and as‑built drawings.

Ensure all designed outputs comply with electrical standards, grid‑code/regulatory requirements (as applicable), and project specifications for solar EPC / grid‑connected solar plants.

Provide design inputs for tendering and proposals — scope definition, technical requirements, estimated quantities, and design feasibility as per site conditions.

  • Support During Pre‑Bid, Tender & Project Start‑up

Assist in pre‑bid or tender‑phase activities — support evaluation of technical feasibility, grid‑connection compliance, equipment specification, site constraints, and overall electrical scope estimation.

Help prepare RFQs / RFPs, technical bid documents for electrical scope; support evaluation of vendor/contractor proposals for technical compliance.

  • Execution Support & Site Coordination (if required)

Provide design clarifications and support to site‑execution team during installation — address queries related to drawings, cable layouts, earthing/grounding, protection layout, panel/inverter placement, switchgear, etc.

Assist procurement/inspection for equipment/material validation ensuring delivered items match design specifications before installation.

Support commissioning activities by providing required design documentation and assistance for acceptance tests, grid‑tie connections, and electrical compliance audits (as required).

  • Team Collaboration & Reporting

Work closely with senior electrical/design lead, project head, execution, procurement, civil/structural and other cross‑functional teams to deliver design outputs in a timely and integrated manner.

Maintain clear communication, raise design‑related risks or deviations early, propose corrective actions or alternative designs to meet constraints or site conditions.

Mentor or guide junior design engineers or draftsmen (if part of team) — support quality, standardization, and adherence to design protocols.

Qualifications & Skills

Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics / Power Systems (or equivalent).

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of solar PV electrical systems — DC/AC design, LV/HV panels, earthing/grounding, cable sizing, protection coordination, grid‑tie/EB‑line compliance (if applicable), switchgear, inverters/transformers, electrical safety standards.

Design Tools / Software: Proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD or equivalent) for electrical drawings; familiarity with solar‑design software or electrical analysis tools is a plus.

Soft Skills: Good communication (verbal & written), ability to coordinate across teams (procurement, civil, site execution), manage multiple deliverables, documentation discipline, attention to detail, problem‑solving mindset, time‑management.
