Role Summary

This role provides advanced-level automation engineering for technical processes supporting non-production Linux/Unix environments and legacy Java-based applications. The individual designs, develops, implements, and maintains scalable automation solutions for environment provisioning, configuration, application deployment, operational support, monitoring, and recovery.

The role applies engineering-first and Site Reliability Engineering practices to eliminate repetitive manual work, improve environment stability and availability, reduce operational risk, and provide actionable visibility into platform health. The individual partners with application development, infrastructure, quality assurance, and operations teams to improve system performance, deployment consistency, operational readiness, and service reliability.

The ideal candidate would have 5-8 years of experience in Unix/Linux shell scripting , and exposure to AI & Automation skills

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, implements, and maintains automation solutions, scripting frameworks, and orchestration workflows that improve the efficiency, scalability, reliability, and operational readiness of Linux/Unix environments.

• Automates environment provisioning, configuration management, software installation, application deployment, release management, validation, recovery, and maintenance activities across multiple platforms and technologies.

• Develops and supports automation playbooks, CI/CD integrations, and engineering toolchains utilizing technologies such as GitHub, SVN, Jenkins, Ansible/AWX Tower, Control-M, JFrog Artifactory, and related automation platforms

• Engineers and maintains automated environment health checks, observability solutions, and availability dashboards that provide actionable visibility into system stability, application performance, deployment health, operational readiness, and service reliability.

• Defines, measures, and reports key reliability, availability, and operational metrics while implementing monitoring, alerting, and automated remediation capabilities to proactively identify and resolve issues before service impact occurs.

• Provides advanced support for Linux/Unix environments and Java-based applications, troubleshooting complex environment, deployment, middleware, automation, and configuration issues while partnering with development and infrastructure teams to implement permanent solutions.

• Analyzes recurring incidents, operational challenges, deployment failures, and support activities to identify opportunities for automation, reduce operational toil, improve service reliability, and accelerate issue resolution.

• Creates and maintains technical documentation, operational procedures, automation standards, implementation guides, runbooks, dashboards, reports, and knowledge-sharing materials to support engineering and operational excellence.

• Evaluates and implements emerging automation, observability, artificial intelligence, and engineering technologies that improve support processes, operational efficiency, and platform reliability. Opportunities to leverage AI-driven process improvements and automation are part of the role vision.

• Collaborates with application development, quality assurance, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to deliver automation solutions, improve platform stability, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

• Trains and mentors team members on automation technologies, scripting practices, operational best practices, and engineering-first approaches to problem solving.

• Participates in change management, release management, operational readiness reviews, special projects, and other duties as assigned while promoting an automation-first and reliability-focused engineering culture.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in automation engineering, Linux/Unix administration, environment engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or application support.

• Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B. Tech) in Computer Science or IT, or a related field or Bachelor’s in Computer Applications (BCA)

• Strong hands-on experience supporting and troubleshooting Linux/Unix environments.

• Experience developing automation solutions using shell scripting (Bash, KornShell), Python, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages.

• Experience creating and maintaining automation playbooks, orchestration workflows, and scheduling solutions using tools such as Ansible/AWX Tower, Control-M, or comparable platforms.

• Experience with source code management and CI/CD technologies including GitHub, SVN, Jenkins, Ansible/AWX Tower, and JFrog Artifactory.

• Knowledge of environment provisioning, configuration management, application deployment, release management, monitoring, and operational support processes.

• Experience developing environment health checks, operational dashboards, reporting solutions, and observability capabilities to measure system availability, reliability, and performance.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.

• Experience supporting Java-based application environments and related technologies such as Apache and Tomcat. Linux/Unix, Java application troubleshooting, and Apache/Tomcat are identified as core skills in the related

• Excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills, working effectively with development, QA, infrastructure, security, and operations teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Splunk, ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence, Control-M, JFrog Artifactory, or similar enterprise engineering platforms.

• Knowledge of cloud platforms, containerization technologies, Infrastructure as Code, and modern DevOps practices.

• Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools, intelligent agents, process automation platforms, or operational analytics solutions.

• Understanding of SRE principles, observability, operational excellence, reliability engineering, and automated remediation practices.
