Job Description Summary

This is a senior operational leadership role responsible for the stability, resilience, and compliance of the OpenShift platform estate at Lloyds Banking Group. As an OpenShift Lead Senior Operator (Grade E), you hold accountability for platform reliability and operational outcomes that span multiple clusters, environments, and squads supporting critical customer services.
You operate at estate scale, setting operational strategy, standards, and guardrails to ensure OpenShift platforms are run in a safe, predictable, and supportable manner. Your focus is on operational excellence—ensuring incidents are handled decisively, changes are executed safely, and systemic risks are identified and addressed before they impact customers.
At Grade E, you are not focused on individual ticket execution. Instead, you act as a multiplier—leading through influence, establishing strong operational practices, and creating alignment across Operations, Engineering, SRE, Security, and Service Management.

• Essential Skills & Experience

  Extensive hands-on experience operating large-scale OpenShift or Kubernetes platforms in production environments.

  Proven ability to lead platform operations across multiple clusters and environments.

  Strong experience leading major incident response and coordinating resolution across multiple technical teams.

  Deep understanding of operational security controls including RBAC, certificates, secrets, tokens, and audit requirements.

  Experience governing platform change, upgrades, and lifecycle management within formal risk and control frameworks.

  Strong observability and operational monitoring experience, with a focus on reducing noise and improving signal quality.

  Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, aligning Operations, Engineering, SRE, and Security stakeholders.

  Extensive experience working in Agile environments, using Jira to manage complex operational initiatives and dependencies.

  Desirable Skills & Experience

  Experience operating OpenShift across private cloud or hybrid cloud estates at scale.

  Strong familiarity with SRE and reliability engineering practices applied from an operational perspective.

  Experience acting as the primary operational interface with vendors such as Red Hat during support cases and escalations.

  Passion for building strong operational communities, mentoring operators, and raising operational standards across teams.
