JOIN COWI TUNNELS TEAM IN GURGAON


We are part of the Business Line Engineering and Design Centre (EDC), collaborating closely with other COWI offices outside India in Scandinavia, the United Kingdom, Singapore and North America. By joining the team, you will become part of over 100 skilled geotechnical and underground engineering professionals in COWI. As a geotechnical team member, you will work in close collaboration with specialists elsewhere in COWI to deliver projects globally.



TURN CHALLENGES INTO SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS
As a senior Rock Mechanics Specialist in the Geotechnical Section, you will provide skilled technical guidance and leadership in rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering for complex infrastructure projects. Your role will involve conducting advanced analyses, developing innovative solutions, and ensuring the effective implementation of geotechnical designs. You will:

  • Oversee the domain of rock mechanics within the business unit
  • Act as subject matter expert internally as well as externally promoting COWI
  • Define best practices (i.e. professional standards, technical delivery approach, knowledge sharing)
  • Evaluate the skills and resources required to maintain capable project teams
  • Develop innovative solutions on complex matters
  • Mentor and develop less experienced staff



On a day-to-day basis you will:

  • Lead and manage rock mechanics design teams for delivery of medium to large infrastructure, hydroelectric power or transit metro tunnel projects
  • Oversee the development and review of geological models, designs, reports and drawings to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with industry standards
  • Oversee the delivery of projects to time, scope and budget
  • Develop scope of work based on project requirements
  • Review the work of less-experienced engineers
  • Communicate design work progress to internal and external stakeholders
  • Interpret and organize design results into project documentation such as technical memoranda, geotechnical design reports and presentations
  • Assist with preparation of bids and tenders

In addition, you must have proficient analytical skills and a structured work approach to develop practical solutions.



Furthermore, you should have:

  • Master’s degree within Civil / Geotechnical Engineering / Rock Mechanics
  • Minimum 12+ years of project design experience in carrying out analysis and design of rock tunnels, caverns and underground structures
  • Prior experience of leading rock mechanics design teams for transportation and hydropower infrastructure projects
  • Sound knowledge of rock mechanics fundamentals including various design approaches
  • Understanding of tunnelling and underground construction methods such as drill and blast, NATM, NMT or TBM
  • Basic working knowledge of typical BIM and AutoCAD
  • Experience with design software such as RS2/3, SWEDGE, UNWEDGE, DIPS, UDEC, FLAC/FLAC3D, Plaxis 2D/3D, Sofistik, and/or others
  • Knowledge of working with international standards (EURO, Canadian, NFF, BS and API, etc.)
  • Experience within Scandinavian, UK or North America markets would be a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate seamlessly across geographical and cultural boundaries
  • Proficient time-management and organisation skills, ability to multi-task, and ability to communicate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders
