Your Impact
You will join our Client Capabilities Network in Gurugram (India) as part of our global MineLens team. MineLens is part of McKinsey’s Global Energy & Materials practice.
MineLens provides mining companies with the strategic business intelligence they need to identify, quantify, and prioritize value creation opportunities in their operations. By combining advanced analytics, a comprehensive database of mining performance benchmarks, and global mining expertise, MineLens enables clients to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
As a Knowledge Specialist you will serve as a thought partner to client service teams, providing insight into and synthesizing results to solve complex problems.
Your role will involve leveraging your deep expertise in the mining industry to provide strategic insights and operational excellence to our clients. You will be instrumental in developing and enhancing our internal knowledge databases and contributing to new product development that will help enable us to expand MineLens capabilities.
You may be required to lead a group of analysts for client or knowledge building projects. You will help conduct operational excellence diagnostics at mines to determine potential opportunities for improvement. You will assist clients in data collection, perform quantitative analysis of client data, and incorporate qualitative observations into benchmark reports.
Additionally, you will also participate in the development of innovative approaches to mining data analytics, supporting consulting teams and clients both on-site and off-site. This role will require you to engage in long-term projects that may require international travel for durations of 4 to 8 weeks or longer.
Your Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or post-graduate degree (e.g., Masters) in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
- 4 - 7 years of professional experience in the mining industry with expertise in mining operations (open-pit and underground)
- Significant understanding of the industry dynamics of the mining sector
- Passion for analytics and interest in developing new approaches to mining data analysis and application to operational improvement
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with proficiency in business tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint), mining software, and advanced analytical platforms
- Prior experience anchoring client engagements with the ability to be stand-alone in senior client settings and present complex value propositions to client executives
- Willing to work in a highly demanding and result-oriented team environment with periodic travel to remote mining locations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages is an advantage
