This role is a new addition to the Enterprise Architecture team, created to drive the strategic governance, optimization, and evolution of Siemens Energy’s engineering software landscape, ensuring that Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), CAD, CAE, simulation, authoring, and other engineering applications deliver maximum business value while supporting engineering excellence and digital transformation objectives. The Engineering Software Portfolio Manager will assess current and future engineering requirements, optimize software investments, and establish governance frameworks that balance innovation, user productivity, standardization, and cost efficiency. Working closely with Engineering, Digitalization, Procurement, Enterprise Architecture, and software vendors, helping to create a future-ready engineering software ecosystem.. This role will focus on three core areas: comprehensive portfolio analysis to identify optimization opportunities, establishing robust governance and lifecycle management for all engineering software assets, and managing key stakeholder and vendor relationships to ensure alignment with strategic objectives. Given the focus on portfolio optimization and cost management, the ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert with extensive experience in software asset management and enterprise architecture. They will possess strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, coupled with a proven ability to manage large-scale projects and influence stakeholders in a complex enterprise environment.
What You Need To Make a Difference
40% Portfolio Analysis and Optimization Strategy
Own and govern the engineering software portfolio across Product Design, Product Development, PLM, CAD, CAE, Simulation, Authoring, and related engineering domains.
Assess, rationalize, and optimize the entire engineering software portfolio, identifying redundancies, underutilization and opportunities for standardization, consolidation, and modernization.
Develop and present data-driven business cases for software rationalization, including Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Return on Investment (ROI) analysis.
Create and maintain a strategic technology roadmap for the engineering software landscape to guide future investment and decommissioning decisions.
Monitor market trends and emerging technologies in Engineering Software, PLM, Digital Engineering, MBSE, AI-supported engineering, and Digital Twin solutions.
Provide strategic recommendations to leadership regarding portfolio investments, risks, optimization opportunities, and engineering technology roadmaps.
30% Governance and Lifecycle Management
Establish and manage a central governance framework for the procurement, renewal, and retirement of all engineering software.
Oversee the complete lifecycle of engineering software assets, from initial request and evaluation through to end-of-life.
30% Stakeholder and Vendor Management
Act as the primary point of contact between IT and engineering business units to understand software requirements and align them with cost-saving initiatives.
Lead negotiations with software vendors to secure favorable terms, pricing, and licensing agreements.
Manage ongoing vendor relationships and performance to ensure value delivery and compliance with contractual obligations.
Coach and advise business stakeholders and lower-level professionals on best practices for software selection and utilization.
Certifications
Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM)
The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF)
Education
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in IT portfolio management, software asset management (SAM), or enterprise architecture.
Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale, complex software portfolios, preferably within an engineering or industrial context.
