Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities:
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to support a strategic Supplier Base Transfer Program for Electron Microscope products. This role is responsible for ensuring that the Technical Product Documentation (TPD) package is complete, accurate, and manufacturing-ready before release to new suppliers as part of supplier localization from Europe (primarily the Czech Republic and other EU suppliers) to China.
The engineer will serve as the technical interface between Design Engineering and suppliers during the RFQ and industrialization phases, ensuring suppliers have all the information required to successfully manufacture components while resolving technical queries in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and assess Technical Product Documentation (TPD), including engineering drawings, specifications, CAD models, BOMs, material specifications, standards, and manufacturing notes.
- Identify missing, ambiguous, or incomplete technical information that could impact supplier quotation, manufacturability, quality, or production.
- Ensure TPD packages are complete and suitable for external suppliers to manufacture parts without unnecessary assumptions or interpretation.
- Work closely with design engineering teams to close documentation gaps before supplier release.
- Act as the primary mechanical engineering contact for suppliers during the RFQ process.
- Analyze, prioritize, and respond to supplier technical questions related to drawings, tolerances, materials, surface finishes, manufacturing processes, inspection requirements, and assembly interfaces.
- Facilitate technical discussions between suppliers and global design teams to resolve engineering issues.
- Review supplier feedback and recommend design or documentation improvements to enhance manufacturability and reduce production risk.
- Support engineering change implementation and ensure documentation updates are reflected in released TPD.
- Participate in supplier technical reviews, design reviews, manufacturability assessments, and localization activities.
- Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Global Procurement teams to support successful supplier onboarding and qualification.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering documentation quality and documentation standards.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
- 5–7 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, product engineering, manufacturing engineering, or supplier engineering.
- Strong expertise in interpreting complex engineering drawings, GD&T (ASME Y14.5 or ISO GPS), tolerance stack-up, and precision mechanical assemblies.
- Excellent understanding of machining, sheet metal fabrication, casting, injection molding, welding, surface treatments, and precision manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and Siemens NX for reviewing and validating mechanical designs.
- Experience using Teamcenter (or equivalent PLM/PDM system) for engineering documentation and configuration management.
- Strong knowledge of Engineering Change Management (ECR/ECO) processes.
- Experience working directly with global suppliers during RFQ, manufacturing transfer, or new product introduction.
- Ability to independently evaluate documentation completeness and identify manufacturing risks before supplier release.
- Experience with precision instruments, electron microscopes, semiconductor equipment, medical devices, or other high-precision capital equipment.
- Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Inspection (DFI).
- Familiarity with tolerance analysis and mechanical simulation using ANSYS is an advantage.
- Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and other manufacturing quality tools is desirable
- Exceptional attention to detail and documentation quality.
- Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to explain complex engineering requirements clearly to suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.
- Strong decision-making capability with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced supplier transfer environment.
- Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.
- Knowledge of supplier qualification and manufacturing transfer processes.
- Exposure to simulation-driven design validation using ANSYS.
Understanding of quality systems and change management processes.
