Established in 1993, YRGMERF is a leading non-governmental organisation in India dedicated to improving health outcomes through integrated healthcare, inclusive partnerships, and research-driven interventions. Guided by the principles of integrity and sustainability, the organisation addresses both immediate and emerging public health challenges, with a strong focus on prevention, care, support, and treatment—particularly in the area of HIV and other infectious diseases.

In India, the TIFA project aims to strengthen national health security through coordinated action across government systems and community stakeholders. This approach is designed to build a resilient ecosystem capable of detecting, preventing, and responding to emerging infectious disease threats.

As part of this initiative, a decentralised community-based surveillance model will be implemented, aligned with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)’s Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) framework. The model enables community platforms such as Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Mahila Arogya Samitis (MAS) to identify and report early warning signals using IHIP tools, thereby strengthening community ownership, improving early detection, and enabling timely public health response.

Role Overview

The Driver will support the project team by providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation for staff and project-related activities. The role will involve regular travel to field locations, health facilities, communities, and other project sites as required. The Driver is expected to maintain the assigned vehicle in good working condition, follow road safety requirements, maintain necessary vehicle records, and support the team during field movements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide safe and timely transportation to project staff for field visits, meetings, trainings, and other official activities.
  
• Drive project vehicles responsibly and in accordance with traffic rules, road safety regulations, and organisational policies.
  
• Plan routes and travel schedules in coordination with the project team, taking into account field locations and timelines.
  
• Ensure the vehicle is clean, roadworthy, and maintained in good operating condition.
  
• Conduct routine checks of fuel, tyres, engine oil, coolant, brakes, lights, and other essential vehicle components.
  
• Report vehicle faults, accidents, breakdowns, or maintenance requirements promptly to the designated supervisor.
  
• Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel records, service records, and other documents as required.
  
• Ensure that vehicle documents, including registration, insurance, pollution certificate, and driving licence, are valid and available.
  
• Assist with the safe loading and unloading of project materials and equipment when required.
  
• Support staff during field travel and assist with navigation and coordination at unfamiliar locations when required.
  
• Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct while interacting with project staff, government officials, community members, and other stakeholders.
  
• Be available for travel to project locations and work schedules as required by project activities.

Qualifications & Skills

• Valid commercial/professional driving licence appropriate for the vehicle assigned.
  
• Minimum 2 years of relevant professional driving experience; experience with NGO, public health, community, or field-based projects is  preferred.
  
• Good knowledge of local roads, routes, and traffic regulations.
  
• Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and ability to identify common vehicle issues.
  
• Ability to read and maintain basic vehicle logs and records.
  
• Basic communication skills in English and the relevant local language(s); Hindi is an advantage where applicable.
  
• Clean and responsible driving record, with a strong commitment to road and passenger safety.
