What if you could do the kind of work the world needs?
At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.
WSP is seeking a Principal Computational Design Architect to lead the development and application of advanced computational, automation, and AI‑enabled workflows across our architecture projects.
This is a hands‑on leadership role. You will partner closely with the Digital Lead to shape and deliver the digital delivery strategy—bridging design intent and technical execution through scripting, automation, and intelligent systems.
Your core mission is workflow enablement at scale: creating robust, production‑ready tools and processes that measurably improve project delivery, quality, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Workflow Enablement & Automation:
Analyse existing project workflows to identify inefficiencies, risk, and opportunities for automation.
Build bespoke automated solutions using Grasshopper, Dynamo, Python, C#, and/or web technologies to eliminate repetitive, low‑value tasks.
Develop custom plugins and web tools to bridge software silos (e.g. Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, Excel, databases).
Establish best practices, templates, and standards for computational delivery across team capabilities.
Validate workflows and tools directly within live project contexts to ensure they address actual delivery challenges, not theoretical scenarios.
Project Delivery & Technical Excellence:
Embed within live projects to solve complex design and delivery challenges using computational methods.
Support form rationalisation, constructability, documentation efficiency, and data‑driven decision‑making.
Work closely with the Technical Architecture team to understand day‑to‑day delivery pressures, constraints, and coordination challenges, ensuring tools and processes are grounded in practical, buildable solutions.
Champion a culture of “computational delivery,” demonstrating by example how digital methods directly improve project outcomes.
Strategic Digital & AI Leadership:
Partner with the Digital Lead to define and evolve the long‑term digital and computational roadmap.
Evaluate emerging technologies (AI, generative design, web platforms) and determine where they deliver real, production value.
Lead the research, prototyping, and deployment of AI‑enabled workflows, including:
LLMs for specifications, scripting, and documentation
Image and geometry generation
RAG / MCP and API‑based integrations
Ensure new tools and methods are production‑ready, supportable, and aligned with project risk and governance requirements.
Ensure AI and automation initiatives remain connected to the realities of production delivery, prioritising tools that demonstrably reduce effort, rework, and risk.
Qualifications
Essentials:
10+ years in Architecture/AEC with proven experience working within multidisciplinary project teams, with a clear understanding of architectural delivery stages, constraints, and digital workflows.
Expert proficiency in visual scripting (Grasshopper, Dynamo, Rhino.Inside, Elefront or equivalent).
Deep understanding of Revit and Rhino environments and their APIs.
Solid understanding of machine learning concepts, LLMs, and API integration in an AEC context.
Proven ability to deliver production‑ready tools, not just prototypes.
Desirable:
Experience with C# (Rhino and/or Revit API).
Experience with web development (React, Vue, Node.js, REST APIs).
Experience deploying tools across multiple projects or team.
