The Position holder is responsible for SLB’s Measurement Business Line and function as an Instrumentation Engineer who assists in Projects and Proposal Engineering deliverables related to oil and gas Measurement Systems and products like Liquid and Gas metering systems, sampling and blending systems etc. Instrument engineer is responsible for designing of systems, support after market, improve product designs and improve product and project performance. The position reports to the Measurement Engineering Manager.

Instrumentation Engineer is locally responsible for the technical execution of Projects, proposals and products associated with Measurement Systems. Instrumentation Engineer will support project Engineer, Project managers, Sales, proposal engineer etc.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate command of most technical skills and principles within the field of instrumentation.
Evaluate customer specifications to confirm design compliance for the application.
Review customer specifications to match specifications or clearly define differences (clarifications or exceptions list).
Provide cost estimates for instrumentation, valves, specialty items, spare parts, field instrument and hookup and control system for proposals within the scope of supply and client specifications.
Review P&IDs to confirm correct instrumentation symbol and control scheme, confirm sizes for control valve, relief valve, flow element and mounting nozzles for instrumentation.
Assist in developing P&IDs to ensure compliance with client specifications, and/or SLB standard piping specifications.
Recommend, specify and prepare requisition for inquiry and purchase of instrumentation, valves, and other piping components like orifice plates, bleed rings etc.
Perform control valve sizing, flow meter sizing, relief valve sizing, flow element sizing.
Recommend control valve, level instruments, flow instruments, and manual valves best suited for application.
Participate in client or internal HAZOP.
Coordinate with Engineering Department to identify equipment that requires spare parts per SLB requirements or client specifications. Prepare project commissioning and operation spare parts lists.
Provide wiring diagrams and junction box layout drawings for systems.
Provide installation instructions and dimensional drawings during system/piping design, and fabrication phases.
Assist in providing hookup details to I&E contractor for installation of instrumentations.
Where applicable, review and approve subcontractor field instrument and electrical hookup scope, and ensure scope meets client specifications or SLB standard.
Where applicable, coordinate with systems team to review subcontractor control system design, and ensure scope meets client specifications or SLB standard.
Provide preliminary instrument and valve weights.
Review vendor drawings, hookup, calculation and other technical documentation related to instrumentations.
As required, perform final inspection for instrumentation and valves.
As required, participate in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for SLB equipment.
Perform Peer Reviews of team design work.
Provide technical support for trouble shooting
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in Instrumentation Engineering with 8 to 10 years’ experience in the design and application of process equipment for the Oil and Gas measurement industry with proficiency in design of liquid and gas metering, sampling, and blending systems.
Familiar with national and international codes and standards for instrument and electrical, valves testing and construction, inspection and NDE requirements, and field installation and start-up procedures
Understanding of the product applications and weaknesses as compared to Competitors products.
Good knowledge of control valve, relief valve, flow elements, flow meter sizing, selection and applications.
Good knowledge of transmitter types and their applications.
Good knowledge of all valve types and their limitations.
Hands on experience with field start-up, calibration and troubleshooting experience of instrumentation is a plus.
Knowledgeable of Customer nuances and unique Customer specifications and requirements.
Knowledge of contract terms, product / project risks, national and international codes and standards for oil field process equipment design, shop fabrication procedures, materials of construction, and field installation and start-up procedures.
Experienced in process design and sizing of measurement systems and equipment. (Ultrasonic flow meter, Coriolis meters, turbine meters, positive displacement meters cone meters, provers etc)
Should have a working knowledge of applicable industry codes and guidelines.
Preferred Skills
Degree in Instrumentation Engineering with8 to 10 years’ experience in Engineering projects for design and application of process equipment for the Oil and Gas measurement industry with proficiency in design of liquid and gas metering, sampling, and blending systems
Proven ability to become product expert, win work and efficiently execute work.
Good knowledge on PFD, P&ID, Data sheet and process concepts in sampling, metering and blending systems
Ability to review P&ID’s for complex process equipment.
Ability to size control valves, relief valves, and flow measurement devices.
Knowledge of some materials of construction and their application.
Working knowledge of ISA guidelines and symbols for instrumentation.
Familiar with applicable ASME and API guidelines.
Ability to work cooperatively with various company departments associated with designing, estimating, fabricating, operating, and selling this equipment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to utilize Word, Excel, PowerPoint and engineering design programs.
