Position Overview

Saint-Gobain is seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Engineer to lead the deployment and development of Smart Factory applications across its global operations. This role plays a critical part in scaling Industry 4.0 solutions across 1100+ manufacturing sites worldwide, ensuring seamless integration with MES and automation systems across L1–L3 layers.

The selected candidate will be part of INDEC 4.0, Saint-Gobain’s Global Competency Center dedicated to advancing digital manufacturing initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, global environment and contribute to innovative manufacturing transformation projects.

Job Summary

Seeking a System Engineer with strong expertise in Ignition Software, Industrial Automation, SQL, MQTT, and MES systems. The role involves designing, developing, and deploying scalable Smart Factory solutions across global manufacturing sites. The ideal candidate should possess strong project management capabilities, cross-functional collaboration skills, and the ability to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute Smart Factory and SG Digital Manufacturing application projects.
  • Deliver L1/L2 system integration and Manufacturing IT applications.
  • Design, develop, and deploy large-scale Ignition-based MES solutions.
  • Verify and validate industrial automation projects across L1–L3 integration layers.
  • Design and implement robust automation solutions to enhance manufacturing efficiency and productivity.
  • Implement and manage industrial communication protocols ensuring seamless device and system connectivity.
  • Develop, configure, and maintain MES systems to optimize manufacturing operations and data flow.
  • Integrate IoT devices and platforms for real-time monitoring and control.
  • Analyze manufacturing data to generate insights and recommend process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional global teams to deliver Industry 4.0 initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues to ensure high availability and minimal downtime.
  • Stay updated with emerging Industry 4.0 technologies and apply them to ongoing projects.
  • Participate in end-to-end automation projects from design to final delivery.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in Industrial Automation / Smart Manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience in Ignition SCADA (Vision & Perspective).
  • Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols like Modbus (RTU & TCP/IP), ProfiNet, Ethernet TCP, OPC DA/UA and Siemens S7 Communication.
  • Experience with SQL databases, MQTT, and REST APIs.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and JavaScript.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC systems (Siemens / Allen Bradley).
  • Experience designing automation applications for discrete, process, and hybrid manufacturing.
  • Understanding of ISA-95 / Unified Namespace (UNS) standards.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies.
  • Understanding of Industry 4.0 frameworks and standards.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in global, cross-functional teams.
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred: Valid B1/B2 US Visa.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ignition certification.
  • Experience with MES platforms such as: Siemens SIMATIC IT, Rockwell FactoryTalk and Wonderware MES
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles in industrial environments.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C#, or Java.
  • Certification in Industry 4.0 technologies or related methodologies.
  • Prior experience working in manufacturing environments.

Domain Knowledge

Strong domain knowledge in Industrial Automation technologies – PLC / DCS / SCADA / HMI for manufacturing environments, with exposure to one or more of the following industry verticals: Chemicals, Glass, Construction Products, Automotive, Abrasives, Ceramics
