What will you do:
- Lead supplier quality initiatives including qualification, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement programs
- Conduct comprehensive process audits at supplier facilities and develop targeted improvement action plans
- Drive resolution of quality issues through systematic containment, correction, and prevention strategies
- Identify and mitigate potential quality risks through proactive analysis and preventive measures
- Coach and coordinate quality assurance engineers while managing supplier relationships
A Supplier Quality Engineer ensures that products from suppliers meet company quality standards through audits, process assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Role in the Organisation
Supplier Quality Engineers play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the supply chain and ensuring that all incoming materials and components meet the company’s quality standards. They help reduce product defects, support continuous improvement initiatives, and act as the primary technical liaison between suppliers and internal teams, contributing directly to product reliability and customer satisfaction.
This role requires a combination of technical expertise, process knowledge, and interpersonal skills to ensure that suppliers consistently deliver high-quality products and comply with regulatory and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier Evaluation and Audits
(SAM): Conduct audits and assessments of supplier manufacturing processes and quality management systems to ensure compliance with company and industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Supplier Qualification through PPAP process
(SQM).Quality Assurance and Control: Develop, implement, and maintain supplier quality plans, inspection procedures, and testing methodologies to verify that materials and components meet specifications.
Corrective and Preventive Actions(
8D method): Lead root cause analysis for defects, implement corrective actions, and monitor their effectiveness to prevent recurrence.
Supplier Performance Monitoring(
SPM): Track supplier metrics, defect rates, and delivery performance, and provide reports to management to drive continuous improvement.
Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with suppliers, procurement, production, and engineering teams to resolve quality issues, qualify new suppliers, and ensure alignment with product requirements.
Training and Guidance: Provide technical guidance and training to suppliers and internal teams on quality standards, inspection methods, and process improvements.
Qualifications And Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in quality, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. ( 7 to 10 years’ experience )
- Experience: Proven experience in quality control, supplier management, or a similar role, with knowledge of quality inspection, auditing, and testing methods.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in statistical analysis, quality management systems, and process improvement methodologies.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to effectively manage supplier relationships and resolve quality issues.
- Certifications (Optional): Knowledge of ISO standards, Six Sigma, or AS9100 can be advantageous.
