The Enterprise Technology Services organization partners with every part of the American Express business to power the company’s growth and innovation with trust and efficiency and drive competitive differentiation with speed. We support the delivery and operations of technology, digital, and data capabilities, platforms, and services globally. Specifically, our team is responsible for the company’s technology engineering, architecture, and infrastructure, providing 24x7 support to ensure uninterrupted, high-quality experience for customers and colleagues. We also provide product management for core enterprise platforms, and lead technology risk and information security, enterprise data governance and platforms, digital product and design, and enterprise AI platforms on behalf of the company.
Enterprise Platforms is a company-wide center of excellence responsible for the product management and engineering of four critical platforms that underpin American Express’ essential customer segments, value propositions, and business lines: Enterprise Money Movement, U.S. Deposits, Global Accounts Receivable, and Global Loyalty & Benefits.
The role of Software Engineer III leads the full software development lifecycle, ensuring high reliability and efficiency through collaboration, innovative solutions, and rigorous code standards.
Responsibilities
- Advances the design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications and systems.
- Drives the modification, documentation, and maintenance of software to ensure high reliability and availability.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to address advanced technical challenges and optimize application performance.
- Analyzes system requirements and delivers innovative technical solutions to enhance software quality and efficiency.
- Completes code reviews and automated testing to maintain high-quality code standards.
- Collaborates and co-creates effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectives.
Qualifications
- Hands on Java application design, software development and automated testing (Java 11 and higher).
- Intermediate knowledge of basic infrastructure technologies and components.
- Familiarity with application containers based on spring, spring boot, vertx or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Cloud services including DevOps concepts and CI/CD tools.
- Experience with Event-driven/Micro-services architecture for high-availability/distributed systems.
- Experience using Spring Framework, Junit, GitHub, Microservices, Splunk and API’s
- Experience with Test driven development and unit testing frameworks.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools (Git) and build tools Maven or Gradle.
- Knowledge of distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, NoSQL and relational databases
- Knowledge of the core tools used in the planning, analyzing, crafting, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining of assigned application(s).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and/or comparable experience.
Work Experience
- Software engineering and development experience or a related job.
- Experience in application design, software development, and automated testing.
- Experience in object-oriented design and coding with variety of languages.
- Experience in distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases.
- Experience in Agile software development methodologies and practices such as Scrum/Kanban, iterations, user stories.
- Experience in automation testing and documentation (i.e. automated, functional, and performance).
