About the Team The Platform Engineering, Foundations & Enablement team builds the bedrock of Appian’s technical ecosystem. By delivering resilient shared services, automated developer tooling, and core frameworks, this team enables engineering organizations to build scalable enterprise solutions and accelerates Appian’s growth in the AI-Powered Process Automation market.

What You’ll Do

• Architect and construct high-performance, resilient platform features, robust APIs, and shared frameworks to power mission-critical operations.
• Execute technical spikes to clear architectural runways, ensuring system stability, modularity, and seamless long-term scalability.
• Elevate engineering standards by leading rigorous code reviews, driving proactive refactoring, and optimizing low-latency performance.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering engineering excellence and operational accountability.
• Eliminate developer friction by designing automated workflows and self-service platform tools that maximize developer velocity.
• Author comprehensive design documents and system guides to maintain strong architectural alignment across multi-functional engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience focusing on Platform Engineering, Enterprise Software Design, or Developer Enablement.
• Deep hands-on proficiency in core backend languages including Java, Python, or Go.
• Demonstrated background in Distributed Systems, Microservices, modular design, and high-throughput API Development.
• Robust troubleshooting and observability skills utilizing industry-standard Telemetry, Logging, and Monitoring tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK, along with modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Expertise with AWS Cloud Services (Compute, Storage, Networking, Security), alongside Docker, Kubernetes, or EKS.
• Exposure to GitOps workflows, Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs), or Cloud Cost Optimization strategies.
• Knowledge of enterprise security frameworks, including SOC2 or FedRAMP.
• We value your experience within enterprise ecosystems like Salesforce or ServiceNow, as these skills translate exceptionally well into our Enterprise-Grade Orchestration environment.
