The Process Engineer – CAD is responsible for designing, validating, and optimizing manufacturing processes, tooling, and nesting programs to support efficient blade production. The role involves working with CAD software such as AutoCAD, CATIA, Nesting, and LAP Laser systems to improve quality, productivity, material utilization, and operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering Support
Create, validate, and optimize glass nesting programs to improve material utilization, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency while reducing waste.
Prepare and provide carbon plank nesting layouts for prefabrication activities.
Design, develop, and detail tools, jigs, fixtures, and manufacturing aids in collaboration with the tooling team.
Generate and maintain inspection templates for components, moulds, and tooling.
Support tooling development projects by coordinating with global tooling teams and suppliers.
Tooling Development & Validation
Define tooling requirements based on production and process needs.
Validate new tools, jigs, and fixtures before handover to Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Safety teams.
Participate in technical discussions and coordinate new tooling trials to ensure successful implementation.
Provide technical support and clarifications to suppliers regarding tooling development projects.
Support Supply Chain Management (SCM) by preparing technical write-ups required for customs clearance of tooling-related materials.
Process Improvement & Optimization
Drive continuous improvement initiatives targeting cycle time, man-hours, waste reduction, material consumption, power usage, water consumption, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
Conduct material trials and process evaluations to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve performance.
Work closely with the Process Senior Manager to introduce new technologies, tools, and process improvements.
Production & Shop Floor Support
Actively support production teams to ensure compliance with defined manufacturing processes.
Monitor and validate LAP Laser processes within the main shell manufacturing area.
Participate in daily shop floor review meetings and provide engineering support for issue resolution.
Conduct regular process audits and identify improvement opportunities.
Ensure adherence to established safety, quality, and operational standards.
Training & Documentation
Provide technical training and skill development programs to production personnel on layup and related manufacturing processes.
Conduct change management awareness sessions and training programs.
Update Work Instructions (WIs), process documents, and standards in line with approved engineering changes.
Support knowledge transfer and process standardization across production areas.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
3-7 years of experience in process engineering, CAD design, tooling development, or manufacturing engineering.
Experience in composite manufacturing, blade manufacturing, wind industry, or related manufacturing environments is preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD, CATIA, Nesting Software, and LAP Laser Systems.
Knowledge of tooling design, jig and fixture development.
Understanding of composite manufacturing processes and layup operations.
Experience in process optimization, continuous improvement, and waste reduction initiatives.
Familiarity with quality systems, process audits, and change management.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies is an advantage.
