Job Purpose
The successful candidate will be responsible for writing, editing, and producing accurate, engaging, and error-free digital content in text, video, and audio formats for our website, social platforms, and podcasts, in line with the highest professional standards You will also be required to exercise editorial judgment of the highest standards in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.

From April 2024, the majority of the BBC’s Indian operations are moving to the Collective Newsroom which has been set up by some of the BBC’s most experienced journalists in India. It has more than 250 journalists and operational staff, bringing you distinctive, impartial and world-class content and is the BBC’s sole provider of content for its Indian language websites and social media platforms including English. Based in the BBC’s largest international market, we bring you the best of Indian journalism guided by the world’s biggest and most reputable news organisation. We provide digital, audio and television content in Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi and Telugu as well as English.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

•Reporting to the Editor, the Producer is responsible for originating and producing original stories.
•Preferable with specialised knowledge on sports.
•To be able to produce original sports stories, videos, Sourcing sports contents from different experts, Sports interviews etc.
•May be required to present live on BBC News Tamil social media platforms.
•The role includes ideation, scripting, editing, outputting, filming content across a range of digital output.
•Commission and select relevant materials ensuring they meet expectations of our audience.
•Ensure all content published on BBC News Tamil website and its social media platforms adhere to the BBC editorial and social media guidelines.
•As required, to allocate work to a team member and check progress; ensure professional contribution of staff and quality of output.
•Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
•Deliver journalism of the highest standard and within the required timeframe using available resources.
•Ensure all content published in BBC News Tamil website, social media platforms and TV programmes are without factual or grammatical errors.
•Ensure effective use of resources and materials between Digital and TV teams.
•Monitor developments/Breaking News from the region and around the world and publish appropriately with value addition and perspective.
•Deliver to tight deadlines while maintaining quality and highest editorial standards.


Requirements


Knowledge, skills, training and experience

•A high standard of editorial judgment, writing ability and production skills based on substantial digital journalism experience of at least 5+ years. We are also open to candidates with less experience, provided they demonstrate strong Digital Media skills. Such candidates may be offered for the position of ‘Assistant Producer’ instead of ‘Producer’.
•Thorough knowledge of analytics and audience engagement tools and strategy.
•Understand the requirements of the BBC News Tamil audience and deliver to achieve its target.
•Maximising oportunities offered by existing and emerging technologies to their fullest extent.
•Ability to contribute effectively for the benefit of Digital platform.
•Ability to adept new technologies for effective production.
•Demonstrates a commitment to improve diversity and understands how individual differences can benefit the Collective Newsroom.
•Priorities and plans activities taking into account all relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources.
•Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner, adapt, produce and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output.
•To ensure all published content adheres to the BBC editorial standards and is without any factual or grammatical errors.
•Flexible and adaptable to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.
