Job Description – Global IT Team Lead – Product Design (CAD/CAx)

Purpose of Position

Lead a global IT team responsible for the Mechanical Engineering application landscape, including CAD/CAx, PLM, simulation, engineering data, integrations, administration, and support. Driving standardization, governance, operational excellence, and AI-enabled innovation across the engineering IT ecosystem.

Education

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Engineering Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

Professional Experience


  • 10+ years in Engineering IT supporting CAD/CAx, PLM and engineering applications.
  • 5+ years leading global IT application support/administration teams.
  • Experience managing enterprise engineering platforms, vendors and service delivery.


Key Skills & Experience


  • Strong experience in Engineering IT, application administration and support.
  • Deep knowledge of CAD platforms (PTC Creo, Siemens NX), PLM (Windchill/Teamcenter), simulation tools (Ansys), integrations and engineering data.
  • Product ownership and roadmap management.
  • ITIL/service management, incident, problem and change management.
  • AI adoption in engineering applications.
  • Enterprise architecture, cybersecurity and compliance awareness.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication.


Key Responsibilities


  • Strong leadership experience in global, distributed team setups
  • Strategic thinking with hands-on technical depth
  • Deep understanding of Mechanical Engineering (ME) processes across design, simulation, testing, and validation
  • Broad expertise in engineering IT tools like CAD (PTC Creo, Siemens NX, etc.), simulation/analysis tools (FEA, CFD, e.g. Ansys), PLM (Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill) & PLM integration and system landscapes
  • Experience in Product Ownership, roadmap management, and agile/hybrid delivery models
  • Strong affinity for AI, data-driven engineering, and digital innovation
  • Strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution capability
  • Strong project/program management capabilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills in English


Leadership & Organization


  • Lead, mentor, and develop a globally distributed IT team, including internal employees and external service providers
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and business-oriented thinking


Product Ownership & Stakeholder Management


  • Act as Product Owner for the global CAD/CAx tool landscape
  • Work closely with Engineering, R&D, Quality, and Business stakeholders to: Capture business needs and engineering requirements
  • Translate them into IT requirements, features, and priorities
  • Own and continuously evolve the product roadmap, ensuring transparency, alignment, and value-driven prioritization


Tool Harmonization & Process Enablement


  • Drive global harmonization and standardization of ME IT tools across regions and business units
  • Support and enable the harmonization of engineering processes in close collaboration with business and process owners


AI Integration & Digital Innovation


  • Identify, evaluate, and introduce AI-based solutions in Mechanical Engineering and Product Design, e.g.: AI-assisted design and optimization
  • Ensure responsible, secure, and value-driven adoption of AI in engineering workflows


Delivery & Business Value


  • Ensure stable operations, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement of the ME tool landscape
  • Measure, track, and communicate business value, efficiency gains, and quality improvements delivered by IT solutions
  • Secure a continuous increase of business value through innovation, automation, and optimized tool usage


Governance & Architecture


  • Ensure seamless integration of ME tools with PLM, ALM, ERP, and data platforms
  • Contribute to enterprise architecture, IT governance, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements
  • Manage vendors, licenses, budgets, and external partners
