The FED Engineering Manager is responsible for supervising fuel equipment design engineering activities associated with BPS projects, including department workload planning, proposal support, contract execution, engineering quality, schedule adherence, and technical deliverables.
Essential Responsibilities
Update the FED Engineering Department manpower loading plan on a monthly basis. Use this workload plan to support decisions related to:
Individual engineering assignments.
Overall project schedules.
Engineering overtime requirements.
Engineering support required from outside the department.
Oversee the execution of individual contracts from the contract kick-off meeting through completion of the acceptance test report and conclusion of results engineering activities.
Lead and support proposal efforts, including preliminary design, development of clarifications and exceptions, man-hour estimating, risk identification, and schedule development.
Understand, update, and maintain Fuel Equipment Engineering ISO work instructions.
Conduct annual performance reviews and submit appraisals for individual engineers.
Attend weekly BPS Engineering contract and proposal status meetings.
Monitor contract man-hour estimates and document changes that affect engineering hours.
Monitor contract schedules, document deviations, and maintain communication with the project scheduler and Project Engineer regarding schedule changes.
Oversee, review, and approve studies, reports, emissions predictions, and guarantees.
Requirements
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, particularly in coordinating and documenting all aspects of contract execution. The individual should be a self-motivated leader who can promote collaboration and effectively direct a cross-functional engineering team in executing FED-related engineering activities.
Mandatory Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering preferred.
Fifteen (15) or more years of experience in a similar or related industry, with a background in areas such as project engineering, product design, or design engineering.
Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated excellent analytical and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and respond quickly to requests
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in combustion system design, including coal, natural gas, oil, or related fuel systems. This includes burners and fuel delivery systems.
Field start-up and operating experience.
Understanding of auxiliary equipment such as filter skids, heaters, valves, strainers, and related components.
Knowledge of ASME and NFPA codes and product application requirements.
