Field Design Engineer

Position Summary

VPG is seeking a highly motivated Field Design Engineer (FDE) to serve as the primary technical sales authority. The FDE also acts as a commercial interface between customers, distribution partners, and internal (VPG) teams. This hybrid role combines technical sales, application engineering, business development, and partners closely with Account Managers (if available) and RSM to drive revenue growth, secure design wins, and expand market share within a defined territory.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background (Passives market is an advantage), excellent customer-facing skills, and a passion for helping customers solve complex engineering challenges while developing long-term business relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Growth

• Identify and develop new design-win opportunities within targeted markets.
• Expand business within existing customer accounts.
• Drive specification positioning and competitive displacement initiatives.
• Execute territory growth strategies in collaboration with Strategic Account Managers (if applicable) or RSM.
• Develop and execute territory coverage plans to maximize market penetration and opportunity generation.
• Develop and qualify new projects and applications.
• The primary accountability of for purchase orders
• Collaborate with Account Managers (if applicable) or RSM to identify and develop new business opportunities, strengthen relationships with strategic accounts, and build productive partnerships with distribution channel partners expansion.

Technical Design Support

• Partner with customer engineering teams throughout the design cycle.
• Conduct design reviews and application support activities.
• Assist with product qualification, validation, and implementation.
• Provide technical consultation and troubleshooting support.
• Coordinate resolution of technical and quality-related issues.

Distribution & Channel Development

• Train distributor sales and field application engineering teams.
• Conduct joint customer visits and opportunity reviews.
• Grow distributor opportunity pipelines and design registrations.
• Support Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with channel partners.
• Follow account manager (if available) and RSM strategy for the distributor

Account Management & Sales Operations

• Build and maintain relationships with engineering, purchasing, and executive-level stakeholders.
• Manage customer opportunities, forecasts, quotations, and program activity.
• Support escalation management and customer satisfaction initiatives.
• Maintain accurate CRM data, pipeline visibility, and forecast updates.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Voice customer requirements and market feedback to internal teams.
• Support product roadmap and market development initiatives.
• Coordinate customer visits, technical reviews, and business planning activities.
• Work closely with sales, product management, operations, quality, and manufacturing teams.

Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field preferred.
• 10 years of experience in field applications engineering, technical sales, design engineering, or account management.
• Experience supporting OEM customers within industrial, aerospace, defense, medical, semiconductor, instrumentation, or automation markets.
• Strong problem-solving, independence, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage technical and commercial discussions with customers and distribution partners.
• Experience with CRM systems, opportunity management, and forecasting tools (Nice to have an is an advantage).
