Own and update the overall cost status for assigned programs, including Risks and Opportunities (R&O), from program start through production release.
Report cost status and R&O regularly to relevant stakeholders and forums, ensuring transparency and timely updates.
Lead trade-off discussions with cross-functional teams to evaluate and agree on cost changes and their impact on the program.
Collaborate with suppliers to obtain quotations and work with the cost estimation team to develop cost estimates for engineering changes.
Facilitate Team of 4 (To4) meetings with finance, buyers, and cost estimation teams, including preparing agendas, maintaining minutes, and tracking action items.
Discuss and negotiate material cost, tooling cost, and ED&T quotes with suppliers throughout design, development, and launch phases.
Maintain a comprehensive change tracker from program start to Job 1 and provide regular reports on status and impact.
Review and approve Commodity Change Management Forms (CMF) for cost-related changes.
Lead cost approval discussions in all cost-related forums, using Change Management Forms (CMFs) and Change Request Forms (CRFs) as required.
Benchmark competitor cost data across all relevant commodities to support informed decision-making and cost optimization.
Update and track the progress of Supplier Involvement Requests (SIR) received from design and release (D&R) engineers.
Support the purchasing team in obtaining approvals for Supplier Involvement Requests (SIR) related to unfunded activities and track their status.
Track Supplier Involvement Requests (SIR) approvals in the ED&T governance board for funded SIRs, ensuring alignment with governance requirements.
Support the development and tracking of the SOBA plan, ensuring sourcing and cost actions align with program objectives.
Verify ED&T mountain charts against the Engineering Statement of Work (ESOW) provided and negotiate ED&T mountain charts with suppliers as needed.
Track and follow up on ED&T approvals with the governance board to ensure timely authorization of engineering activities.
Prepare and share Long Lead Funding (LLF) estimates with the program team to support planning and funding decisions.
Track and report tool and purchase order updates to D&R engineers after production release, ensuring clear visibility of tooling and procurement status.
Essential Skills
4 to 9 years of experience in cost management, sourcing, or procurement within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in cost analysis, cost tracking, and cost reporting.
Proven experience in procurement or sourcing, including working with suppliers on quotations and commercial discussions.
Demonstrated ability to negotiate material, tooling, and ED&T costs with suppliers.
Ability to lead cross-functional trade-off discussions and drive consensus on cost-related decisions.
Experience working with cost estimation teams and interpreting cost estimates for engineering changes.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain and manage change trackers and documentation such as CMFs and CRFs.
Analytical mindset with the ability to benchmark competitor cost data and derive insights.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with finance, buyers, cost estimators, D&R engineers, and governance boards.
Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent mechanical engineering degree.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with Supplier Involvement Requests (SIR) processes and approvals.
Familiarity with ED&T governance boards and approval workflows.
Exposure to developing and tracking SOBA plans in a program environment.
Experience reviewing and negotiating ED&T mountain charts and aligning them with Engineering Statements of Work (ESOW).
Ability to prepare Long Lead Funding (LLF) estimates and communicate funding needs to program teams.
Experience tracking tooling and purchase order status post-production release in collaboration with D&R engineers.
