We the Power Conversion (PC) Solutions team at Indian Operation Center, Hitachi Energy Technology Services Pvt Ltd, Chennai help our clients with our state-of-the-art power converter solutions in a varied range of applications. With our competence in Power Conversion technology, we have a leading position in the development of solutions for Utility STATCOM's, Rail Power Supply Converters as well as static frequency converters for industrial applications. We have also built the world’s largest drive for a hydro pump station. To strengthen this motivated team, we are looking for an experienced and dedicated Control design Engineer with high interest in power electronics and control technology. As the system being continuously evolving, becoming more complex and customized, great deal of test & verification are required. Thus, the job description would be as given below:
How You’ll Make An Impact
Understanding of Power Quality and power Conversion solutions like STATCOM/ Static Frequency Convertor/ Static Var Compensator/ Series Compensation
Understanding of special substations (Mobile SS/Prefab) – desirable
AIS/GIS substation equipment, selection criteria, ratings, and their operational purpose (66 kV & above).
Preparation of Protection SLD showing principles, relays and meters
Preparation of Functional Design Standards/Descriptions
Preparation of Signal list, trip matrix, Logics & Interlocks
Review of Vendor drawings and documents (technical vetting of Control & Relay panels, Auxiliary System)
Preparation of schematic diagrams for the interface’s equipment in Control & Relay Panel scheme thus providing completeness
Preparation of relay ordering information.
Preparation of circuit diagrams – New & Existing Set-up (applicable for retrofit projects)
Preparation of Cable block diagram
Preparation of Cable Schedule & BoQ estimation for ordering
Preparation of Voltage drop calculation - Trip & Close coil, LVAC power cable
Identification of existing drawings and modifying them using Red and Green markups as per standard requirements
Interface knowledge with Primary Equipment, Bay Controller Units /SCADA/RTU/Tele protection are essential
Auxiliary Power System design like Low Voltage AC Panel & DC Panel requirements, Aux Tr and Battery & Charger Sizing, ACDC Cable sizing & CB selectivity study.
CT / VT Sizing
Relay configuration (Preferred)
Excellent knowledge in AIS & GIS secondary designs.
As Built documentation
Review of Tender document, technical specifications and preparation of Design Intent Document
Co-ordination with other departments like primary, lead engineer, sourcing, C&R factory counterpart & own department control and protection etc. for design progress & completion
Vendor Offer Evaluations. FAT / SAT of primary secondary equipment, system as and when needed.
Ensure Ontime delivery of design deliverables & to be vigilant on project schedule impacts.
Responsible for obtaining customer approvals for the designs and drawings
Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation
Take part in customer meetings / site visits for tender/project clarifications
Support and act as interface engineer during erection & commissioning
Estimation of engineering effort for each project for costing at tender stage
Innovative ideas to reduce Engineering effort
Plan, implement, review and continuously improvise quality system
Ensure the Safety through design principles which meant for complete project lifecycle.
As-built drawings preparation etc.
Co – ordination with different stakeholders during project execution.
Technical co-ordination with sub suppliers and multiple stakeholders in different locations & discussion with other departments / stakeholders to prepare the Division of works.
Technical support at site during commissioning phase of the project
Should be willing to travel to sites in India and Abroad at short notice for support work.

Your Background
Years of experience: 2 to 8 Years with Bachelor of Engineering - Min 4 years in Air-insulated substations (OR) FACTS, Flexible AC Transmission System (OR) HVDC Design Experience
Proficiency in E3 and CAD design tools. E3 is added advantage.
Knowledge of relevant international standards ex. IEEE, IEC etc.
Experience in designing any High Voltage products Designing [Substation Design/Switchgear/Transformers/Circuit Breakers/Surge Arresters]
Having knowledge of SAP will be preferred.
