The Cisco Cloudx team is a dynamic group of developers, Solutions Architects, and data engineers dedicated to supporting Cisco’s public cloud infrastructure and operations. As part of the Cloud Management and Operations (CMO) team within Cisco IT, we build the platforms and automations that enable governance, operational efficiency, cost management, and security guardrails across Cisco’s public cloud environments. We are a diverse, collaborative team of innovators committed to shaping the future of cloud technology, and we are looking for a Data Engineer to join our mission.

Your Impact

As a Data Engineer, you will support the development of the data infrastructure that powers our cloud operations. You will work alongside experienced engineers to build ETL pipelines, assist in the creation of AI agents, and develop insightful BI reports that visualize cloud performance. This role is designed for a motivated individual with a strong technical foundation who is passionate about learning how to turn raw telemetry into actionable, automated insights at an enterprise scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Pipeline Support: Assist in building and maintaining scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS Glue, PySpark, and cloud-native services.
• BI Reporting & Visualization: Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI to visualize cloud cost, performance, and operational metrics for stakeholders.
• AI/ML Assistance: Support the development and testing of AI agents and machine learning models designed to monitor cloud resource health.
• Data Management: Help manage data storage, processing, and query performance using the Snowflake cloud data platform and AWS Athena.
• Workflow Orchestration: Learn to orchestrate and monitor data workflows using Apache Airflow DAGs.
• Automation: Assist in automating operational workflows using Python and intelligent scripting.
• Collaboration: Participate in code reviews, team design sessions, and Agile ceremonies to learn best practices and contribute to team goals.
• Documentation: Maintain clear documentation for data processes and assist in tracking project progress via tools like Jira.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, software development, or a related field.
• Technical Foundation: Proficiency in Python and foundational knowledge of SQL.
• BI Skills: Experience building data visualizations and reports using Power BI.
• Interest in AI/ML: Exposure to or coursework in machine learning libraries (e.g., Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow).
• Cloud Curiosity: A basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and a desire to deepen that knowledge.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a genuine passion for problem-solving.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Data Modeling: Experience with DAX and advanced data modeling within Power BI.
• Project Experience: Academic or personal projects involving data pipelines, cloud services, or ML model deployment.
• Full Stack Interest: Exposure to frontend (Angular) or backend (Flask) development is a plus.
• Agile Mindset: Experience working in an Agile environment or familiarity with Jira/Confluence.
