The Manager of Simulation Technology (CFD)is responsible for a leading global, multidisciplinary engineering team focused on the deployment of advanced CFD modeling, analysis and technology development for industrial and utility boiler and boiler combustion systems projects. This role combines deep technical expertise in reacting flow simulation using the ANSYS CFD suite and/or other simulation technology with leadership of research and development initiatives that drive cost-effective next-generation low-emissions, high efficiency combustion technologies.

Essential Responsibilities

Technical & Simulation Leadership

  • Contribute and lead development and execution of CFD models for industrial combustion systems including low-NOx gaseous, liquid and pulverized fuel fired burners in utility and industrial boilers.
  • Lead, develop and mentor CFD and simulation engineers
  • Develop and validate models involving turbulent reacting flows, species transport and/or finite rate chemistry, PDF and non-premixed combustion models, radiation and pollutant prediction such as NOx and CO.
  • Lead mesh strategy development, boundary conditions methodology and data reconciliation with plant field-test data and the calibration of models as appropriate
  • Provide technical leadership to the simulation team through technical reviews of models, assumptions and results.
  • Establish project plans, simulation milestones and resource allocation for each contract awarded to the organization
  • Present results to senior leadership and customers as required.

Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Master of Science Degree in either Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field (Ph.D. Preferred)
  • Fifteen (15) or more years’ experience in a similar or related industry with background in reacting flow simulation.
  • Demonstrated experience with ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS CFD Post/Prep and/or other recognized simulation platforms.
  • Strong understanding of turbulence modeling, computational combustion theory and heat transfer including radiation. (Burner/combustion design preferred
  • Experience interpreting experimental, test rig, or field performance test data
