The Enterprise Technology Services organization partners with every part of the American Express business to power the company’s growth and innovation with trust and efficiency, and drive competitive differentiation with speed. We support the delivery and operations of technology, digital, and data capabilities, platforms, and services globally. Specifically, our team is responsible for the company’s technology engineering, architecture, and infrastructure, providing 24x7 support to ensure an uninterrupted, high-quality experience for customers and colleagues. We also provide product management for core enterprise platforms, and lead technology risk and information security, enterprise data governance and platforms, digital product and design, and enterprise AI platforms on behalf of the company.
Responsibilities
This role is as part of the Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) Governance & Controls (G&C) team. As an Associate, you will play a key role in executing technology risk and control initiatives that support enterprise-wide transformation efforts, including Project Guardian.
You will partner closely with Tech Risk & Control Managers and G&C Pillar teams to drive day-to-day execution, bring structure to complex programs, and ensure commitments are delivered with quality and timeliness.
This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys solving problems, and wants to build deep expertise in technology risk within a global financial services organization.
What You’ll Do
- Drive day-to-day execution of technology risk and control initiatives across ETS by tracking deliverables, timelines, and dependencies
- Bring structure and clarity to complex workstreams by maintaining plans, dashboards, and status reporting for leadership
- Partner with stakeholders across risk, compliance, data, and technology teams to support implementation of control management practices
- Identify gaps, risks, and inefficiencies in processes, and proactively escalate or recommend improvements
- Analyze risk and control data to generate insights that support decision-making and strengthen controls
- Support governance routines by preparing materials for leadership reviews, forums, and program updates
- Document processes, controls, and standard operating procedures with a focus on consistency and audit readiness
- Collaborate across teams to ensure alignment with enterprise risk frameworks and regulatory expectations
- Contribute to building a strong risk-aware culture through disciplined execution and accountability
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in Technology Risk, Information Security, Audit, Controls, or related domains
- Working knowledge of risk and control concepts (e.g., RCSA, issues management, controls testing, audit)
- Strong execution mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on commitments
- Comfortable working with data—able to analyze, interpret, and present insights clearly
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and follow-through
- Good stakeholder management skills; able to collaborate effectively across teams and levels
- Clear and concise communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities and minimal supervision
- High integrity and professionalism when handling sensitive information
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to financial services regulatory environment
- Experience supporting large-scale transformation or regulatory programs
- Basic understanding of industry frameworks (e.g., COSO, COBIT, NIST)
- Certifications such as CISA, CRISC, or CISM (or progress toward them)
