Job Summary

Our client is after someone who’s spent 2-3 years getting genuinely good at API automation — not just running scripts, but actually understanding what a test is proving. You’ll be building out automation around REST APIs, digging into JSON and XML payloads, and making sure nothing slips through before it hits production. If you’re comfortable moving between Rest Assured, Postman, and a CI/CD pipeline without missing a beat, this is worth a look.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build API automation suites using Rest Assured, Postman, and Swagger/OpenAPI.
• Write test automation code in Java, Python, or JavaScript, depending on what the project calls for.
• Test and automate RESTful APIs, web services, and both JSON and XML payloads.
• Work with TestNG, JUnit, Maven, Gradle, and Git as part of the day-to-day testing workflow.
• Plug automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI.
• Operate comfortably within Agile teams and follow SDLC/STLC processes without needing much hand-holding.
• Run database and backend validation using SQL where API testing alone isn’t enough.
• Log and track defects through JIRA, Azure Boards, or similar tools.
• Test API authentication and security setups, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and Basic Authentication.
• Handle integration testing, regression testing, and testing across microservices.
  
  

Required Skills

• 2-3 years of hands-on experience in software testing, with real depth in API automation.
• Comfortable working across Rest Assured, Postman, and Swagger/OpenAPI.
• Solid programming ability in Java, Python, or JavaScript.
• Experience testing RESTful APIs, web services, and JSON/XML payloads.
• Working knowledge of TestNG, JUnit, Maven, Gradle, and Git.
• Some exposure to CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI.
• Understands Agile methodology and SDLC/STLC well enough to work within it, not just talk about it.
• Can write SQL for database testing and backend validation.
• Familiar with defect tracking tools such as JIRA or Azure Boards.
• Understands API authentication and security mechanisms, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and Basic Authentication.
• Has done integration testing, regression testing, and microservices testing before.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting instincts, and communicates clearly with the rest of the team.
  
  

AI Experience

• Using AI-assisted tools to speed up test case generation or debugging is a nice plus, not a requirement.
• No hands-on AI/ML experience is needed for this role.
  
  

Managerial Experience

• This is an individual contributor role; no direct reports are expected.
• Should be comfortable coordinating with developers and product teams to sort out testing gaps.
  
  

Operational Experience

• Experience maintaining automation suites that actually get used release after release, not just written once and forgotten.
• Comfortable working within CI/CD pipelines where tests run automatically on every build.
• Track record of catching regressions before they reach production.

Qualifications

• B.Sc, B.C.A., or B.Tech/B.E. in any specialization.
• 2-3 years of relevant experience in API automation testing.
  
  

Certifications

• ISTQB or a similar testing certification is a plus, though not required.
