The Proofreader is familiar with AMA style guidelines and is able to follow those guidelines to ensure consistent, accurate, and superior work quality. The Proofreader edits each job thoroughly so that each tactic can pass the rigorous scrutiny of our clients medical- and legal-regulatory committees. The Proofreader should develop knowledge of each client’s processes/procedures for submission and edit tactics according to its stage in the submission process. The Proofreader provides suggestions for the departmental Style Guide.
The Proofreader has strong communication and interpersonal skills. The Proofreader prioritizes work appropriately and escalates concerns relating to quality and timing to a senior member on the Editorial team. The Proofreader establishes solid working relationships with all internal brand team and department members by keeping them informed of any significant issues on any job and by acting as an expert resource on grammar, punctuation, and brand consistency. The Proofreader should project a professional and positive attitude toward all team members.
Key Responsibilities
Provide outstanding editorial services for all designated projects, including editing and proofreading
Follow established procedures/guidelines to ensure consistent work quality
Performs quality control measures on files created by the studio by comparing to back-up and running a spell-check.
Checks changes on extensive alteration rounds
Performs an initial edit for projects originating in the studio
Collaborates with the studio team as well as the project managers.
Has a keen eye for details and can spot a needle in a haystack
Follows-up and follows-through on all assignments
Can work quickly, cleanly, efficiently, and effectively under pressure
Adheres to and monitors agency guidelines related to file naming, file and folder management, back-up/archiving, and un-archiving of files. Keeps Studio Manager informed when said guidelines are not being followed.
Attends departmental meetings when scheduled
Demonstrates high level of efficiency
Has cross platform proficiency and can work comfortable on a PC or a Mac
Has a solid understanding of Adobe Acrobat and uses proper editorial proofreader’s marks
Has a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
Projects “customer-centric” attitude in all interactions (internal and external), promoting a positive agency and team atmosphere
Projects a professional image, always remaining calm despite high-pressure situation
When applicable, alerts managers when client/account input may cause job to go over budget or deadline
Performs other duties as assigned by the Studio Director, Director of Operations, or the Studio Manager
Is a proponent for new efficiencies and techniques
Assists in training freelancers and new employees
Manages time efficiently, meets deadlines, pay attention to detail
Displays motivation and enthusiasm
Able to set priorities while handling multiple projects
Maintains accurate and up-to-date time sheets
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in a related field, with 3-5 years of industry experience
Familiarity with current AMA style
Knowledgeable of industry legality and FDA rules/regulations
Proficient in English grammar and usage
Knowledge of all proofing and editing symbols
Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work quickly and efficiently while juggling multiple projects
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Proficient in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Acute attention to detail, with an emphasis on consistency and continuity
Experience with digital routing software
Familiarity with digital media (navigating web/device interfaces)
