About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Team Manager – System Verification & Validation (V&V) to build and lead a global verification capability for Epiroc’s embedded control systems, automation functions, and software platforms across Surface and Underground programs.
This role is responsible for end-to-end system verification using HIL / SIL / MIL, combining people leadership with verification strategy ownership, including lab capability development, test automation, and release readiness.
Mission of the Role
To build and lead a competent and trusted System V&V organization that ensures ensure robust, safe, and high-quality releases of embedded controls, automation, remote control, operator-assist (ADAS-like), and autonomous functions through structured system verification and validation
Key Responsibilities:
People & Delivery Leadership
- Build, lead, and scale a high-performing System V&V / HIL team (recruitment, onboarding, competence development, performance management).
- Foster a culture of Built-in Quality, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Coach teams on Agile delivery and predictable execution (Agile / Kanban / SAFe as applicable).
Verification Strategy, Governance & Release Readiness
- Define and drive system verification strategy across SIL / MIL / HIL, aligned with product lifecycle and quality gates.
- Own verification governance: test planning, coverage strategy, traceability, defect triage, and go/no-go readiness for releases.
- Establish standardized verification artifacts including test plans, specifications, reports, dashboards, and compliance documentation.
HIL Lab & Capability Ownership
- Own the HIL lab roadmap, including platform standardization, reuse strategy, capacity planning, and investment planning (CapEx).
- Drive 5S and safety compliance in lab operations; improve utilization, maintainability, and repeatability of test environments.
- Enable remote testing and shared lab usage with global teams where applicable.
Automation, DevOps & Toolchain
- Drive test automation frameworks and integrate verification into CI/CD pipelines (DevSecOps mindset where applicable).
- Promote shift-left validation, including virtual testing (e.g., QEMU / virtual ECU setups where relevant) to enable early fault discovery.
Stakeholder & Supplier Collaboration
- Work closely with global Product Owners, System Architects, and R&D organizations (TIN / SRD / RCT / UMR) to align verification priorities.
- Collaborate with suppliers and partners for hardware and software integration testing and validation.
Technical Focus Areas
- HIL / SIL / MIL verification, system integration testing, regression, robustness, and fault injection.
- Embedded control systems and networked ECUs; protocols: CAN, J1939, UDS, LIN, Ethernet (where applicable).
- HIL platforms and tools: dSPACE / NI / Vector VT / OPAL-RT (or equivalent).
- Requirements & traceability tools: e.g., DOORS / Polarion / SystemWeaver (or equivalent).
- Quality & compliance: ASPICE awareness, functional safety collaboration (ISO 26262 / ISO 13849 concepts where relevant).
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 12–18 years in embedded systems verification, HIL systems, or system testing, with 5+ years in leadership / management.
- Strong experience in verification planning, lab/test strategy, and stakeholder management.
- Demonstrated capability in building teams, coaching, and driving measurable improvements (quality, coverage, utilization, cycle time).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with global teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Agile Release Trains / DevSecOps delivery and coaching teams through Agile transformation.
- Exposure to electrification/e-mobility verification and power management.
- Certifications: Scrum/SAFe, ISTQB Test Manager, PMP, Six Sigma, or similar.
