Overview

Azure Core is one of Azure’s most profitable and rapidly growing businesses, and the Azure Core Compute team in the India Development Center (IDC) focuses on delivering a cloud platform capable of running any workload. This includes major Microsoft services such as Teams, Bing, Exchange, Xbox, Structured Query Language (SQL) Azure, Office 365, HDInsight, and Cosmos Database (Cosmos DB), as well as customers including Accenture, Adobe, Walgreens, Walmart, and organizations across shopping, banking, finance, gaming, logistics, enterprise, data analytics and management, and storage services. All of these services and customers rely on the infrastructure built by the team.

The team is expanding quickly and is focused on solving the next major challenges in cloud computing. The work involves pushing boundaries to deliver advancements in cloud architecture, core fundamentals, and data center management, while driving the next wave of innovation across the cloud. The role requires a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree with three or more years of experience in software development. The team values a willingness to take risks and use fast‑fail techniques, and expects collaboration with engineers to co‑own layers of the host networking stack and deliver sustainable, high‑quality impact in a key performance indicator (KPI) driven environment. Experience with networking stacks, Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), and System on Chip (SoC) architectures for accelerated networking is desired.

Responsibilities

• Own the efforts to resolve some of the technically deepest problems in the SDN (Software Defined Networking) and host networking areas.
• Follow the latest developments in technology, work with consortiums/forums in the industry actively, and help our cloud infrastructure evolve towards the next big growth.
• Collaborate with different partner teams and counterparts in different geographies to meet the goals of the organization.
• Mentor junior members of the team and take ownership of building and maintaining an efficient team with the right mindset and attitude to grow as a team.
• Drive innovation in the team via thought leadership, working on ideas/improvements/proofs of concepts/demonstrations/talks.
• Own the quality of the product and drive the efforts to achieve high quality standards and to retain it consistently.
  
  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science
• OR related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• 5+ years experience in software development, including:
• Technical engineering with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Strong design, coding, and debugging skills.
• 2+ year(s) experience in networking, distributed systems, and network virtualization.
• 2+ year(s) experience demonstrating:
• A commitment to high quality standards.
• Technical leadership and effective problem-solving skills.
  

Other Requirements

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science
• OR related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
• OR Masters Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR equivalent experience.
• 2+ year(s) experience with:
• Linux system programming.
• Scripting languages.
• Data path technologies and layers such as Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), classical network interface cards (NICs), SmartNICs, and virtual switches.
• 1+ year(s) experience demonstrating:
• Communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to build effective partnerships across teams and disciplines.
