Zebra Technologies builds enterprise-grade mobile computers, tablets, wearables, and wireless solutions used in retail, warehousing, logistics, and healthcare. Our WLAN engineering team delivers high-performance, reliable, and secure Wi-Fi experiences across all Zebra devices deployed globally in mission-critical environments.

We are looking for an experienced WLAN Developer who can contribute to next-generation wireless features, Android platform integration, and new AI/ML-driven innovations across Zebra’s mobility portfolio.

Responsibilities:

As a WLAN Developer at Zebra, you will design, implement, and optimize Wi-Fi features across our Android-based devices. You will work across system layers—framework, HAL, drivers, vendor components—to deliver best-in-class wireless performance for enterprise customers. Experience with GenAI / AI-ML models to enhance connectivity, diagnostics, and decision-making is a strong plus.

  • Develop and enhance WLAN functionality on Zebra Android devices (AOSP, HAL, vendor layer).
  • Work closely with chipset vendors(Eg: Qualcomm) to integrate and optimize WLAN drivers and firmware.
  • Implement features aligned with enterprise requirements: roaming, load balancing, security, MBO/OCE, Passpoint, fast reconnection, and 802.11ax enhancements.
  • Debug complex issues using chipset-specific tools (Wireshark, Omnipeek, QPST, vendor logs).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (OS, security, automation, QA, product management).
  • Drive performance improvements for throughput, roaming consistency, latency, power efficiency, and reliability in high-density enterprise deployments.
  • Participate in patent ideation, technical reviews, and innovation programs within Zebra.
  • Explore AI/ML or GenAI-based techniques to automate diagnostics, improve roaming decisions, or enhance wireless intelligence (value-add skill).
  • Self-motivated and self-starter with high degree of work ethic with ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented, high-energy environment that requires multi-tasking capabilities and implement high priority initiative.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 6–10 years of WLAN development experience on Android-based platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Wi-Fi protocols up to IEEE 802.11ax (MAC layer, management frames, PHY basics).
  • Hands-on experience with WLAN driver development (kernel space, debugging, log analysis).
  • 4+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing 802.11 Enterprise WLAN solutions with proven track record as an Individual contributor.
  • Solid programming skills in C, C++, Java/Kotlin, and scripting (Python/Shell).
  • Proficiency in analyzing logs and RF traces: wpa_supplicant, vendor driver logs, pcap captures.
  • Familiarity with enterprise WLAN environments (Cisco/Aruba/Ruckus/Extreme).
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals: DHCP, DNS, 802.1X, security protocols.
  • Experience working with AOSP, Android HAL, and vendor WLAN stacks.
  • Good understanding of RF behaviors and characteristics as they relate to WLAN RF design.

Qualifications:

Preferred / Add-On Skills

  • Exposure to GenAI / AI-ML models for diagnostics, prediction, or wireless decision automation.
  • Working knowledge of Wi-Fi 6E/7 (802.11be) is a plus.
  • Experience with automation tools and internal debugging frameworks.
  • Contributions to open source (kernel, AOSP, supplicant) are an advantage.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Electronics Communications, from an accredited college or university.
