Job Description

We are seeking a Signalling Engineer to join our team in Noida / Bangalore and take a key role in the production and verification of signalling design and engineering deliverables across feasibility, option selection, scheme development and detailed design. Aligned to the Project Acceleration in a Controlled Environment (PACE) delivery framework with a particular emphasis on Engineering Stages 1 – 5 encompassing Strategic development & project selection and Project Development and Design.

The candidate needs to demonstrate excellent knowledge of UK Signalling Principles, supported by IRSE licensing accreditation at Principles Designer level, and work experience in the production of signalling design. The candidate will support CREs and Design Leads by providing high‑quality principles input across defined work packages, and consistent application of established design and assurance processes. While not expected to act as CRE, the candidate will demonstrate the capability to influence design quality and uphold engineering governance.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Signal Engineering Input into Multidisciplinary Rail Projects in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland in line with industry standards and internal processes.
  • Demonstrate multi-disciplinary collaborative working practice to ensure integrated and coordinated engineering solutions
  • Ensure design deliverables conform to relevant railway standards, health & safety legislation, CDM/CSM requirements, and Mott MacDonald’s internal design governance frameworks. Follow defined quality processes, contributing to assurance reviews and maintaining audit‑ready documentation.
  • Participate in structured checking workflows and demonstrate professional accountability aligned with IRSE competency expectations.
  • Engage with digital tools, automation initiatives, BIM workflows and improved design processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • An electrical engineering degree or alternatively, a suitable rail industry recognised qualification (HNC/HND).

Essential Skills And Experience

  • 4-7 Years of relevant experience
  • Institution of Railway Signal Engineers 1.1.550 Signalling Principles Designer License
  • Strong working knowledge of signalling principles, including interlocking logic, aspect sequencing, controls, and design assurance fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing principles‑based design deliverables
  • Demonstrated experience in multidisciplinary design environments, with the ability to coordinate and respond to engineering inputs from multiple disciplines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to articulate technical rationale to project engineers, CREs, and clients.
  • A highly organised and proactive working approach, demonstrating ownership of design tasks, quality, traceability and configuration control.
  • Experience contributing to major rail upgrade, enhancement or renewal projects, with awareness of operational constraints, client expectations, and stakeholder interfaces.
  • Positive and proactive approach towards knowledge sharing, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with all levels of staff and clients (written and verbal).
  • Problem-solving attitude with a high level of responsibility for assigned tasks and projects.

Desirable Competencies / Skills

  • Institution of Railway Signal Engineers 1.1.160 Signalling Design Verifier License
  • Experience engaging with international rail markets, including exposure to mainland Europe, North America, Australasia or Middle East transport systems.
  • Experience in Metro, Light Rail, or Tram‑Train design environments.
  • Exposure to ETCS / digital signalling, including feasibility, option selection or design development activities involving ETCS Level 1/2 concepts or digital control systems.
  • Understanding of design assurance frameworks, governance processes or project engineering standards.
  • Ability to effectively manage changing project requirements, multiple concurrent tasks, and evolving design baselines in fast‑paced project environments.
  • Experience participating in technical meetings, client workshops or cross‑discipline coordination sessions, with confidence in presenting technical information and handling feedback.
