Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer in the Microsoft Teams Admin Portal team at Microsoft, you will play a critical role in building scalable, secure and high-performance backend services that power the administrative experience for Microsoft Teams. You will collaborate closely with PMs, designers and frontend engineers to deliver capabilities that help IT admins manage Teams efficiently at enterprise scale. You will lead the design and architecture of complex, large-scale distributed systems, own critical services end-to-end and drive technical strategy and engineering excellence across the team. You will influence platform direction, mentor engineers and ensure operational reliability for services running at global cloud scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end architecture and technical design for large-scale backend systems and services.
  • Own critical services in production, including availability, scalability, cost efficiency and live-site health.
  • Break down ambiguous requirements into clear technical designs and execution plans.
  • Drive cross-team technical alignment and partner with dependent teams to deliver cohesive platform solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers through design reviews, code quality improvements and engineering best practices.
  • Lead operational excellence including telemetry, monitoring, incident response and postmortems.
  • Influence engineering standards, DevOps practices, and CI/CD improvements across the organization.
  • Provide technical input to roadmap planning, trade-off analysis, and long-term platform strategy.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience containerizing services using Docker and deploying/managing workloads using Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Prior experience managing and operating applications in Microsoft Azure environments will be an added advantage.
  • Strong system design fundamentals including scalability, concurrency, resiliency, caching, partitioning, and fault tolerance.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting and operating cloud-native services on Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience leading technical design discussions and influencing architecture across multiple services or teams.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and raising the overall engineering bar.
  • Hands-on experience with microservices, observability, DevOps, and production operations.
  • Ability to independently drive complex initiatives from concept to production with minimal oversight.
Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.
