Job Title: QA Lead
Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced
Senior QA Engineer to champion the quality and integrity of our next-generation media data lake on Microsoft Azure. You will be a hands-on team leader, responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive data quality strategy from ingestion to consumption. You will ensure that the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and scalable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Data Quality Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive QA strategies, test plans, and test cases specifically for data pipelines, data models, and data warehousing solutions on Azure.
- Azure Data Platform Expertise: Leverage your deep understanding of the Azure data ecosystem (Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage) to design and execute effective data validation and testing strategies across the Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers).
- Test Automation for Data: Drive the development and maintenance of automated testing frameworks for data. This includes writing SQL-based validation rules, Python/PySpark scripts for data profiling, and leveraging frameworks like Great Expectations or dbt test to ensure data quality at scale.
- Test Execution & Analysis: Oversee and execute testing of ETL/ELT pipelines. Analyze results to identify data quality issues, data integrity failures, and transformation logic errors. Document and track data defects to resolution.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Data Engineers, Data Architects, and Product Managers to embed a "quality-first" mindset throughout the data development lifecycle.
- Performance & Scale Testing: Design and execute tests to validate the performance and scalability of data pipelines. Ensure they meet SLAs for data volume, processing time, and query performance.
- Data Governance & Security Testing: Partner with the architecture team to implement and test data governance policies. Validate the implementation of security controls, including access controls (RBAC), data masking, and PII handling.
- Continuous Improvement: Champion and implement robust data quality assurance processes and master data management principles. Identify opportunities to improve data quality frameworks and enhance efficiency.
- Reporting: Provide regular reports on data quality metrics, pipeline success rates, defect leakage, and overall data platform health.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in quality assurance, with at least 2+ years in a lead or senior role within a data-centric environment (Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence).
- Azure Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience testing data platforms and pipelines on Microsoft Azure. Deep understanding of services like Azure Data Factory, Spark , Synapse, and ADLS Gen2.
- Technical Skills:
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL for complex data querying, profiling, and validation.
- Strong proficiency in Scala for writing data quality tests and automation scripts.
- Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT processes, and data modeling (star schema, dimensional modeling).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for data (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
- Leadership Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to mentor engineers on testing best practices.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to triage and diagnose complex data integrity issues.
- Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Bonus Points
- Azure certifications (e.g., Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
- Practical experience testing within a Medallion data lake architecture.
- Experience with security testing tools (e.g., OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite).
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
