Job Summary
The role is primarily responsible for leading and working with various platforms and business teams to enable and support the business domain unit in establishing and monitoring data quality and executing their DG requirements. As the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and the key point of contact for those creating and consuming data within their domain, the Sr Analyst Data Quality works with various data governance stakeholders to ensure the data quality is in line with data management standards.
The Data Quality Specialist plays an essential role for the advancement of Canada Life’s data strategy and maintenance of existing DG practices. This role provides the opportunity to enable the business with the governance of the Company’s data assets to ensure the trust, quality, and protection of data is applied. The Sr Analyst Data Quality should be tenacious, creative, curious, with an appetite for growth and innovation. This role is critical to promote data quality regimen and key to establishing the foundation for the Company’s maturity. They will also be responsible for coordinating with the business on the investigation, correction and prevention of data issues as part of Data Quality Issue Management.
Essential Function
Data Quality (DQ): Work with the stakeholders such as Lead Data Stewards, Data Stewards and other data practitioners to continuously ensure that the highest possible levels of data quality are applied. Be the face to the business as subject matter expert for DQ
Quality Monitoring: Create, support and monitor automated threshold-based reports that efficiently and reliably identify areas for further investigation and improvement. Work with the Lead Data Stewards and Data Stewards to support the resolution of the findings in a timely manner
DQ Investigations: Analyze and evaluate data quality issues, clarifying issues and recommending corrective action. Create a root cause assessment to evaluate how to remediate possibly at the source
Data Transformation: Run validation routines, comparing results between legacy and cloud systems for the length of the business transformation project and identify DQ failures in the ecosystem
DQ Reporting: Create a mechanism to ensure DQ activities are monitored and reported on a frequent basis and gain analysis on how to improve DQ across the organization
Continuous improvement: work with various stakeholders and Canada Data Team to identify, refine, and implement data quality processes and requirements
Analyze data and provide data quality assurance for support teams
Maintain documentation and share knowledge base. Assist in development and implementation of new processes, procedures and tools to analyze data and insights
Support strategic decisions, issues, risks, and milestones related to data initiatives
Be the face of the business domain and fully understand and assist the business needs and requirements to implement DQ and data governance mandates
Identify opportunities to improve effectiveness of the data governance organization with focus on operational efficiency and collaboration specific to managing DQ
Provide front line support to our data community and translate complex topics into simple and effective statements that have impact
Support strategic decisions, issues, risks, and milestones related to data initiatives
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Information/Data Science, Data Management, or Computer Science and/or Engineering
5-7 years of applied data quality and governance experience
Experience in Data Governance and use of tool on Data Quality, Data Lineage, Data Tracing (DQ issues)
Oversee the creation of DQ in the full end-to-end implementation with DQ issue resolution and reporting
Create registration process for CDEs and other related data elements with attestations and controls
Engage business units in adopting the DQ program and identify non-compliance with mitigation/action plans
Expert in Microsoft products (PowerPoint and Excel)
Agile, practical, customer service-oriented mindset (doesn’t over complicate processes)
Passionately curious and excited to learn new things
Experience in financial services and insurance implementing DQ program is an asset
Working knowledge of data governance and DQ technology an asset (e.g. Collibra, Microsoft Purview, Informatica)
Self-starter, creative, and willingness to adjust and pivot depending on the priorities
Ability to create any of the following: framework, policies, standards, procedures, templates, etc.
Ability to change mindset and drive change to gain acceptance and adoption from business units and stakeholders, including senior executives and internal departments.
